What if Anakin had nightmares of Palpatine murdering the Jedi Council? Let's explore the depths of it in the video. Anakin sigh as he prepares for bed yet again, though he takes no joy in it. When Padme notices his hesitation, he tries to brush it off, but in truth, he is exhausted. Yet, for the past few days, all he has received when he goes to bed are nightmares. the same nightmares of his wife in her hospital bed, struggling to fight through the pain of birth, but failing to do so. Instead, she loses herself and passes away from the effort. It was painful enough the first time, but as it repeats itself, Anakin finds himself growing more haggarded, but he cannot force himself to stay awake, so he heads to bed with some effort. Yet, the sight that greets him isn't like anything he's experienced before. Rather than the medical center, Anakin finds himself in the Jedi temple, which lights up the night as its great spires are in flames. His eyes widen as clones rush through the halls, not fighting the fires, but attacking the Jedi within. Hundreds of fights have broken out as the Jedi try to repel the advancing clones, but they are facing off against an endless tide. At the heart of this combat, a hooded figure walks through the halls, laughing to himself. Yet he does not walk unopposed. At the end of the hall, three Jedi masters try to stop him. Kitfisto, CCTin, and a genar. The three rush at him, but the attacker is faster, moving in a blur, almost impossible to see. His lightsaber ignites, and he unleashes a flurry of attacks. Though the three try to defend themselves, they are helpless to the attacks. Anakin wants to scream at the site, but it doesn't end there. In the library, Jocasta tries to confront him herself as she defends the archives from being destroyed. She leaps over the first attack and raises her weapon high, but the figure reverses his grip and drives it into her stomach. In the training halls, Columan Jakage confronts the Sith, leaps up, and unleashes a flurry of attacks. Yet, the attacker slides underneath these strikes and unleashes a burst of force that does not halt until the man drops to the ground. The last is Mace, who stands in the Jedi Council chambers, defending a group of younglings. He puts up more of a fight than anyone else. When the hooded figure attacks, Mace is ready to defend, holding each attack at bay as the younglings cower behind him. He grits his teeth as the Sith unleashes a burst of lightning. But instead of faltering, he twists his lightsaber and redirects it back towards him. This time, it's the attacker's turn to struggle as the lightning knocks him back. Mace follows up with a swift kick that sends his head snapping back and his hood flies back. Anakin's breath catches in his throat as he gets a glimpse of the attacker. Those burns begin to form around his face. He can swear he sees the familiar brown eyes of Chancellor Palpatine. But it's only for a split second because after they turn an unusual yellow color. As he hits the ground, Mace leaps at him. But the Sith is faster and holds up his lightsaber, so he drives the point right through Mace. It is then that Anakin was up, jerking to his feet and rubbing the sides of his face. Sweat trickles down and he tries to steady himself. He tells himself that this is another nightmare and that none of it is real, but something feels off about it. With his previous nightmares, there's a strange pull with them. They urge him into action. As if an invisible force is trying to take control of him and pushing him in one direction. This seems different. There is no pull and instead only a warning. as if trying to let him decide what to do. Anakin tries to brush it off and focus on the here and now, but he cannot shake off his unease, especially when he is with Palpatine. Although he cannot be sure that this was the Chancellor in his dream, he still feels unsettled around him. Each time the Chancellor talks or looks at him, he can picture that Sith Lord. But that can't be right. It prevents him from focusing on anything else. is each time he turns his attention to something, that same image pops through his mind. Nothing can distract him or take his attention. Not training, not meditation, or even spending time with Padme. Because of that, he decides to ask Obi-Wan for advice. Although his master is deploying his forces on Udapow, the older Jedi still finds time to speak with him. You look terrible, Anakin. Why does it seem like you're not getting enough rest? I'm having nightmares, master. I see terrible things. A Sith Lord comes to the Jedi Temple and murders the council. What is worse, the clones join him. As they talk, Anakin finds himself explaining everything that happened in that dream down to the smallest to details and how he felt. He is careful to avoid mentioning Padme, though. That part might not be necessary and could just complicate things. And I thought matters were complicated here. I can see what troubles you. Do you have any idea who it might be? I think it might be the Chancellor. I only saw the Sith face for a second, but I'm fairly sure it was him. Anakin, fairly sure isn't enough. You're talking about the most powerful man in the galaxy. If you are to go after him, you must be certain it is him. I suppose it is fortunate that you are watching him. If what you say is true, then perhaps you should do some investigating on your own. Are you suggesting I dig up dirt on the Chancellor? When you say it like that, you make me regret it. But yes, Anakin, the way you describe it, this doesn't seem like a normal nightmare. This could be the Force telling you to act or warning you of the future. I've received a few visions like that, and Master Yoda certainly has. Meditate on it. Perhaps you may discover more of the truth. Or perhaps you can speak with him. No. Not after everything that's happened. I don't think I can confide in the Jedi Council at the moment. Anakin, there is a lot at stake here. And yet, the Jedi refuse to trust me. No. Very well. If you insist on doing this on your own, I suppose I am in no position to stop you. But like I said, this is nothing like we've ever done before. You must be certain of what you are doing before you act, lest you turn the whole Republic against the Jedi. Be careful, my friend. Anakin tries to follow Obi-Wan's advice about meditation. When he's not with Palpatine or Padme, Anakin turns to the Jedi Temple to clear his head and think of what he has seen, trying to get clues of what might happen. Bit by bit, things start to come back to him. I understand you made an important arrest in the plot to destroy the Jedi. To think a simple bounty hunter could create such a plan. I believe someone else, someone much more powerful, was behind this. Oh, and have you any clues as to who it may be? Not yet, Chancellor. Have patience, my boy. It was nothing short of incredible. I assumed the brilliant plan to disguise Obi-Wan Kenobi was yours. No, it wasn't, sir. I was in the dark as much as you were. Really interesting. I was under the impression the Jedi always worked as a team. If only that were true. Instead, this sadly, Deputy Minister Jerich perished this morning in a death watch bombing on Calavala. Let us ensure that his death was not in vain. Let us commit our military might to defending the Mandalorian people. Defending? You mean to occupy our home. You would trample our right to self-determination. We mean to save your people. You will turn our planet into a military target which will bring the war to us. On their own, Anakin doesn't think much about each of these encounters. They are simple conversations and speeches. But the more he thinks about it, and with the knowledge he has, he begins to suspect that there is something much, much worse going on. While they might seem innocent enough, he begins to see the conversations in a new light. As Palpatine tries to turn him against the Jedi to consolidate power and to cover his tracks. While they are far from proof, he recalls what Obi-Wan said about how the Force might be trying to guide him. Could it be telling him that Palpatine is a Sith Lord? But the problem is this is all speculation. And even if it were true, it is not tangible and he cannot present it to anyone. For the first time, Anakin takes his job of spying on the Chancellor seriously. He begins to truly believe that the Chancellor might indeed be up to something and is determined to discover what. He pays close attention to Palpatine and his movements and actions. He attends his meetings, Senate hearings, and other events, and he begins to notice patterns. Palpatine continues to assure many people of his continued support even though his term is ending. In public, he talks as if the war is still going on and a major threat. But in private, he talks to the senators with iron certainty that the war is ending soon. Though he stresses the need for the people to endure hardships and promises to alleviate their suffering, he continues to push for ideas that would strip away their freedoms. And that is not even mentioning his conversations with Anakin. He continues to ask about Padme and whether she is all right, as if he already knows they are married. He asks if things are troubling him and how he can talk to him directly. Anakin decides to test this. And when Palpatine asks again, he says that he's been having trouble sleeping the last few days, but never elaborates. Yes, I'm sorry if I've been inattentive lately. I've just been having trouble sleeping is all. I am sure. Nightmares can be a big problem. Anakin narrows his eyes. This is all the proof he needs. He decides to go deeper to see if Palpatine slipped up in his records. Thankfully, it is easier to access these records thanks to his proximity to Palpatine. He can simply say he is running errands for him. The dim glow of the hollow table casts long shadows across the small, secluded room in the Corissant datab banks. Anakin stands over it as he pours through the data. The first file appears, a series of financial transactions between the Republic Treasury and a Shell Corporation on Munist. Anakin's eyes narrow. He's seen this name before, buried in separatist intelligence reports. He swipes the data to the side, pulling up another file. This one is a communications log, heavily redacted, but the senator's code is unmistakable. Office of the Supreme Chancellor, Anakin's jaw tightens. He's not sure what he's looking for, but he knows it's here. He can feel it like a splinter in his mind, nagging and insistence. The force whispers to him, guiding his hands as he navigates deeper into the restricted archives. Another file opens, and this one makes him pause. It's a list of names, senators, military officers, even a few Jedi, all of whom had met an unfortunate end. Yet, this report was filed a few months before the Chancellor took office. All of them were involved in anti-corruption charges against Palpatines's allies. There is too much to ignore. He thinks back to his vision, to the image of Palpatine standing over the bodies of the Jedi Council, his yellow eyes glowing with malice. Was it a warning? A glimpse of the future? Or something worse? He quickly downloads the data onto a portable drive as he saves it for the future. But he begins to suspect there is only one place he can truly get the information he's looking for, the Chancellor's office. After another day with Palpatine, Anakin escorts him home, but then says that he left something in his office. By now, the building is eerily quiet with the only sound being Anakin's own footsteps. Anakin stands in the shadows, his breath shallow, his heart pounding in his ears. The room is dark, save for the faint glow of Palpatines's desk terminal. He shouldn't be here. If he's caught, it won't just mean expulsion from the Jedi Order. It'll mean treason. But he doesn't have a choice. Not anymore. The terminal is locked, of course, but Anakin has spent years tinkering with machines far more secure than this. He pulls a small device from his belt, a slicer tool he built himself and plugs it into the terminals access port. The screen flickers to life, lines of code scrolling rapidly as the slicer bypasses the security protocols. The screen flashes green and he's in. His eyes scan the files, his stomach churning with a mix of anticipation and dread. He doesn't know what he's looking for, but he knows it's here. It has to be. And then he finds it. Shut down codes for the entire CIS army. Anakin stares at the screen, his mind reeling. This changes everything. Palpatine has the power to end the war at any moment. And yet, he wonders why. The answer hits him like a punch in the gut. Control. Anakin's hands tremble as he copies the files onto the portable drive. He needs to get this to the council. They'll have to listen to it now. They'll have to A soft click breaks the silence. Anakin freezes. Slowly, he turns his head toward the sound. A small, almost imperceptible red light blinks in the corner of the room. A camera. Suddenly, the doors fly open and a squad of the Chancellor's guards appear with their spears leveled. Cursing, Anakin uses the force to throw them back. Most lose their balance, but a pair of them maintain their footing and lower their spears. In unison, they thrust at him. He ignites his lightsaber and swings it, aiming at their weapons. But instead of breaking the Force Pike, it lets out a powerful shock that sends Anakin stumbling. The guards take this chance to advance upon him again, trying to hem him in place. They score a few minor hits that send electric shocks across his body and leave him glowering at them. Each time they strike, his anger grows. When they thrust at him again, Anakin grabs one of the weapons by its haft, ignoring the surge of electricity. He pulls the guard forward and slams his fist into him. The blow sends the man reeling and stumbling back. When his companion tries to help him, Anakin uses his metallic hand to shove the weapon and kick him aside. But as he tries to run away, he can hear footsteps in front of him as reinforcements rush forward. Shock troopers with blasters and electro staffs, too many for him to fight off, he tries to think of what to do next and how he might be able to get away from them. And yet his mind goes blank. Instead, he drops his lightsaber and lets them arrest him. Hours later, Mace Wu comes to visit him. Skywalker, when we told you to keep an eye on the Chancellor, I don't recall us telling you to hack into his computer. You told me to spy on him, master. That's what I did. I thought he had information on his computer that we could use. Information you neglected to tell us. Why in the name of the Force did you think it was a good idea? Even if there is something important there, we can't use it now because of how it was obtained. Are you truly pulling legalities on me now, master? You who asked me to spy on the head of the Republic, do you think that that was any more illegal than what I did? I asked you to ensure that he obeys the law and will obey the law when the war ends. I didn't ask you to break into someone's private computer or assault their guards. I admit what the council asked was questionable, but we understood the need and the importance of discretion. Not this Skywalker. I hope it is clear to you after this matter is ended. Your membership to the Jedi Order will be up for review. Mace Wendu shakes his head one last time before leaving, but Anakin isn't left alone for long. Soon enough, the door slides open to reveal the Chancellor himself. Anakin, I wish to speak with you. Then speak. I have nothing to say. I know you are not responsible for this madness. You are a simple pawn for the Jedi. It was them who put you up to this. But you are afraid of them retaliating to speak the truth. But you can trust me. Say it now and I shall ensure you have adequate protection from any such retaliation. What are you saying? I'm saying, my boy, that the Jedi's days are numbered. But you need not join them. So, it's true. You are the Sith Lord. I must admit, I am impressed. I'm surprised you were able to piece it together much sooner than the rest of your order. It confirms what I already knew, that you are indeed the man most fitting to be my apprentice. All I need is this one act of service and this business shall be done. Anakin hesitates. It is a tempting offer to be sure. After his conversation with Mace, his frustration with them has only grown. But as he looks at Palpatine, all the fear and paranoia he's been building for the last few days now comes back. Everything he's feared and suspected has now proven to be true. That means the Chancellor is planning something big. And then another dark thought fills his mind. Those dreams he's been having about Padme. That must have been Palpatines's doing. His face hardens as he looks at Palpatine. With all due respect, Chancellor, I'm quite comfortable here. Palpatines's face changes. surprise crosses his features. And for a moment, Anakin is in control. But it quickly hardens, and he growls, "Then you are a fool. You will spend the rest of your days rotting here." Despite that, Anakin does not falter. And when people come to speak to him, he reaffirms what he said. He was acting on his own because he began having suspicions of corruption. Unfortunately, the evidence he's gathered cannot be used as Palpatine deems it having been taken through illicit means. But the Jedi are quick to dismiss Anakin, saying he acted on his own. This puts Palpatine in a difficult position as now the Jedi have rallied around him and offered their support to him. This makes removing them from power politically difficult. If he were to execute Order 66, there would be too many questions. The Jedi Temple is quiet as always while the temple guards stand watch as they always do. But tonight, something is wrong. One of the guards lingers near a restricted access door. His movements are tense. He glances over his shoulder, then keys in a code. The door slides open and he slips inside. The room is filled with crates, supplies, artifacts, and equipment. The guard moves quickly, planting a series of small devices among the crates. He steps back, his breath shallow, and activates the detonator. The explosion rocks the temple, shattering windows and sending plumes of smoke and fire into the night sky. Alarms blare. The Jedi scramble to respond. Outside, crowds gather, their faces illuminated by the flames. Holocams hover in the air, broadcasting the chaos to the entire galaxy. The Jedi Council is in turmoil. The holographic table displays live feeds from the scene of the explosion, as well as news broadcasts that are already spinning the narrative. The story is that the Jedi have been stockpiling weapons without Republic authorization. Some preliminary evidence reveals military grade explosives, something the Jedi don't have access to. Pundits and the Chancellor's allies already begin spinning the narrative that maybe the Jedi are plotting something. Although some like Mace and Yoda furiously deny it, the rumors have already begun and there is no slowing them down. Instead, calls for action and investigation are suggested by the Senate to put the matter to rest. They demand a garrison be deployed to the Jedi Temple to conduct an investigation, but many suspect that this is a way for Palpatine to gain further influence. After Anakin's stunt, the Jedi are even more suspicious of him and try to deny it. They offer apologies and other compromises, but the Senate remains adamant. The Senate chamber is in an uproar. Senators shout over one another, their voices echoing in the vast space. At the center of it all stands Palpatine, his expression one of solemn resolve. My friends, this is a dark day for the Republic. The Jedi, whom we trusted to protect us, have betrayed that trust. I would like to believe otherwise, but as the Jedi have stubbornly refused to even allow an investigation, I am compelled to take harsher action to prevent them from undermining the very democracy we swore to serve. The crowd erupts again, some in outrage, others in fear. Palpatine raises a hand, and the room falls silent. I do not make these accusations lightly. But the safety of the Republic must come first, but if this is what it takes to get answers, then I will gladly commit to it. The applause is thunderous. Senators who once respected the Jedi now call for their disbandment. Palpatines's allies in the media amplify the narrative, painting the Jedi as traitors and wararmongers. To back his claims, he has the Corissant Guard march on the Jedi Temple, their white armor gleaming under the city's artificial lights. At their head is Commander Fox, his expression grim as he relays orders from the Chancellor. Secure the temple. No one enters or leaves. Use force if necessary. Inside the temple, the Jedi are on high alert. The Council has barricaded the main entrances, but they know it is only a matter of time before the clones breach their defenses. Mace Wu stands at the forefront. Though they try to maintain diplomacy and refuse to use the force, it soon becomes clear that the clones will not back down. As they attempt to storm the training area for the younglings to take them into custody, the Jedi finally act. A force push throws them back. But this is exactly what the clones want, providing them with just cause to attack. Soon, fighting breaks out all across the temple as the clones fire upon the Jedi. But they aren't alone. Jedi disillusioned by the Jedi order join on the attack. Anakin sits in a dimly lit cell deep within the Coruscant detention facility and the actions are not lost on him. Part of him is tempted to just leave them to their fate and let the clones have them. He senses the clones actions, the anguish in the force. While in the prison, he has nothing but time. And as he meditates, the anguish grows more potent. Something is wrong. The sound of distant explosions shake the walls, confirming his suspicions. Anakin stands, his eyes narrowing. He reaches out with the force, sensing the chaos above. But his clones are sent there, fewer are left to watch him, and offers him a golden opportunity to escape. He reaches for a key card from a passing guard using the Force and lets himself out. He finds his weapons and rushes off, disappearing from the prison before the clones realize what is happening. As he makes his way out and finds a speeder, Anakin wants to return to the Jedi temple and help them. But then he realizes that his place is somewhere else and he hurries to the Chancellor's office instead where he can make more of a difference. Anakin bursts into the Chancellor's office, his lightsaber already ignited. Palpatine sits at his desk, his back to the door, seemingly unbothered by the chaos unfolding across the city. Chancellor, it's over. Anakin, what a pleasant surprise. I was just thinking about you. I see you've managed to escape prison. But do you have the strength to reach out and do what needs to be done? Don't pretend you care about me. I know what you are. Do you? Then you know what I'm capable of? Without warning, Palpatines's hand shoot out and a surge of force lightning erupts. Anakin barely has time to raise his lightsaber, deflecting the energy. Once it dissipates, Anakin charges forward. his lightsaber slashing through the air. But Palpatine is ready. With a flick of his wrist, he summons his own lightsaber, its crimson blade igniting, and the two weapons clash in a shower of sparks. He then pushes the Jedi back and reposts, the force sending shock waves through the room. Anakin takes a deep breath and then comes at him again, their movements a blur of blue and red. Palpatine fights with a fluid, almost unnatural grace, his strikes precise and deliberate. Anakin matches him blow forblow, his raw power and aggression driving him forward. But years of experience guide Palpatine, and he holds him back, leaping back and dodging, using the furniture of his office to help him. But the office is soon reduced to ruins, furniture shattered, windows cracked, and walls scorched by stray blasts of force energy. As the two circle each other, Palpatine suddenly whirls around, lifting up the ruins and hurling it towards him. He throws them at Anakin, sending shards of wood, molten metal, and padded cushions. Anakin doesn't answer. Instead, he launches another attack. His lightsaber a whirlwind of motion. He tries to cut his way through them, but stumbles from the attack, and his movements are clumsy. Palpatine meets and deflects each strike with ease. His movements almost lazy, as if he's toying with them. You're angry. I can feel it. The fear, the doubt, the hatred. It gives you strength. Embrace it, Anakin. Let it fuel you. Shut up. He channels his anger into a powerful force push, sending Palpatine flying across the room. The Sith Lord crashes into the wall, but he lands on his feet, his expression one of mild amusement. Anakin doesn't give him a chance to recover. He charges forward, his lightsaber slashing through the air with deadly precision. Palpatine meets him head-on, their blades locking, and for a moment, they're locked in a stalemate, their faces inches apart. With a surge of strength, he breaks the stalemate, forcing Palpatine back. The Sith Lord stumbles, his defenses faltering for the first time. Anakin presses the advantage, his strikes coming faster and harder, each one fueled by a mix of anger, determination, and desperation. The blows begin to send Palpatine back, leaving him struggling to recover. But Anakin comes at him again and he suddenly shoves him back with a counter-strike. Palpatine cackles. Anakin feels his anger flashing. But the slight twist of Palpatines's lips makes him realize that this is what he wants. Instead, Anakin waits. Finally, he sees an opening. With a powerful strike, he disarms Palpatine, sending the Sith Lord's lightsaber skittering across the floor. Palpatine falls to his knees, his expression one of shock and fear. With a final decisive strike, Anakin plunges his lightsaber into Palpatines's chest. The Sith Lord's eyes widen and then he collapses, his body lifeless. With Palpatine defeated, Anakin begins to craft an encrypted message to the clones. Using the Chancellor's office to make the message seem it is from him, he orders them to stand down, and the clones do stand down. This gives the Jedi a chance to rally and defeat them. Capturing the few collaborators, including those who helped with the sabotage, they determine it was Palpatine who planted the explosives and allowed them to turn the tables on his faction and regain the public's favor. For his efforts, Anakin is spared and allowed to go free, where he ensures the Jedi return to their apolitical roots after seeing how close they were to being destroyed. That's our theory.
