The night [music] is dark and full of theories. >> [music] [music] >> What if Ned Stark saved Elia and her children? >> Let's explore the depths of it in the video. Ned rides up over a hill looking down at the Lannister army rushing into the gates. For a moment, he considers attacking the Lannister host while they're distracted, but then decides against it. There was another option. One of the other gates besides the King's Gate, probably [music] the Old Gate, since that was closest to them. They had to get to the Red Keep. If Tywin was attacking the capital, he likely meant to make himself king and slaughter the Targaryens like he had the Reynes and Tarbecks. >> Great job, men. Lord Karstark, and me, we're hitting the gate there. >> Yelling, the Northmen and their rebel allies charge toward the Old Gate. With all the defenders focused on Lord Tywin's assault, there's no one to stop the Northmen from breaking through the gates and charging through the streets. As they near the Red Keep, Ned sees Jaime Lannister leading the defense, even fighting several of his father's men at the same time. Not wanting the knight to fight alone, Ned attacks, smashing into the Lannister forces and pushing them back before they're retreating inside the Keep. >> Sir Jaime, what is going on there? >> Lord Stark, I didn't expect to be fighting alongside you. My father decided to sack the city after the king let him in. I Sir Jaime, >> the king commands you bring him your father's head. Oh, and Lord Rossart is with the king. >> Jaime's face immediately pales and he makes as if to rush toward the Red Keep. >> Ned grabs his arm and prevents him from going. >> Wait, Sir Jaime. This isn't time for anger. We need to push Tywin back. >> You don't understand. There's enough wildfire stock piles under the city to destroy everything and everyone within the walls if Rossart is with the king then that means Aerys has given the order to ignite them. Very well. Yes, this is a good time for anger. Let's go kill him. >> Jamie and Ned [music] rush into the Red Keep first finding Rossart and killing him then making their way to the Mad King. Aerys glances at Ned as he enters long fingernails matted with scars and a few cuts. Ned narrows his eyes at the man who murdered his father and brother and hefts his sword. Jamie advances toward the Mad King but Ned puts his hand on the younger man's shoulder. >> No, says Jamie. I'll kill him. You need not soil your cloak for a wretch like this. >> You cannot kill me. I am the dragon. I will burn you all. >> Not wanting to [music] wait, Ned swings his sword once. Aerys' head tumbles from his shoulders and drops to the ground. Jamie sags in relief and gives Ned a grateful look then leans his sword against his shoulder. >> Is Elia safe? We should ensure their safety and get them out of the city. >> Instantly, Jamie glances in the direction of Maegor's Holdfast and takes off muttering [music] about impatient young men who rushed around without saying anything. Ned runs after Jamie toward the castle within the castle. When they arrive, a group of Lannister men have slipped past the Northmen holding the gates and are climbing the walls. >> We need to get in there and rescue the princess. Come on. I've got a way in. I'll follow your lead. >> Jamie and Ned rush toward the gate, the golden-haired man yelling toward the fortifications to lower the drawbridge. Seeing the Kingsguard cloak, the guards lower the bridge and allow the two inside. Right as Gregor and Amory Lorch burst through the doors to the inner keep. Both Ned and Jamie chase after the two men. Amory breaks off from the Mountain forcing the pursuers to split up. Jamie quickly catches up to Amory and kills him then runs to find Rhaenys. The girl is hiding under her father's bed looking frightened holding her black cat. Jamie extends his hand toward her causing the girl to slide out from under the bed and rush into his arms. Jamie picks the girl up and runs to find Ned. When the Lord of Winterfell catches up with the mountain, the huge man is attempting to break down the door to Elia's room. As soon as he sees how tall the giant is, [music] Ned freezes. As he does, the giant smashes in the door and prepares to rush in. The sound of a woman screaming breaks Ned out of his paralysis. Not wanting to wait, Ned raises his sword and attacks the mountain. Gregor turns and slashes at Ned, forcing him to back away. Grunting, Ned tries to keep just out of the mountain's reach, moving back away from the door. Thinking quickly, Ned hits Gregor's helmet, causing the man to yell with pain and start [music] swinging. Ned backs up against a wall, then ducks, letting Gregor hit the wall with his sword, sparks flying. Ned rolls under Gregor's arm, then slashes at the giant's leg where his armor isn't protecting. Howling, Gregor drops [music] to one knee right before Ned brings his sword down on his enemy's neck. It takes a couple of strikes, but Ned chops off Gregor's head. At that point, Jamie runs up to him carrying Princess [music] Rhaenys in his arms. When he sees Gregor lying on the ground, he gives Ned an approving look. Gives him a nod, then runs through the broken room. Princess Elia is huddled in the corner holding her son in her arms and holding up a knife. When she sees Ned and Jamie come in holding her daughter, Elia starts shaking with relief. Carefully, Ned walks over to Elia and extends his hand towards [music] her. Princess Elia, come with us. We're going to get you and your children to safety. Elia nods and agrees, taking Ned's hand. When she tries to walk, the princess is very unsteady, likely from shock and her poor constitution. Ned wraps [music] wraps his cloak around her and takes Aegon. After quick decision, Jamie takes Aegon from his mother so that Ned can pick Elia up and carry her out. Once the Northmen and other rebels see their leader, they start retreating back toward the walls and out of the city. Once they're out, Tywin establishes control over the city and searches for Elia and the children, only to find the bodies of Amory and the Mountain and Maekar's hold fast. Grimacing with disappointment, Tywin walks into the throne room and finds Aerys' decapitated corpse. Despite the severity of the situation, Tywin takes a moment to savor his victory over his hated enemy. However, when he asks who killed the [music] Mad King, no one knows. Taking a deep breath, Tywin walks up to the Iron Throne and runs his hand along the flat of one of the [music] blades. He would have to reconsider his plan. He'd wanted to put the new king in a bind and force him into a position where he needed his help, including giving a show of loyalty by doing the hard things that idealistic stupid heroes like Robert Baratheon couldn't. >> Those contemptible Northmen have ruined everything. Kevon, hold the city walls. Ensure it's secure for when Robert comes. And send a message to Lord Stark. We need to control the narrative. Gregor and Amory were rogue agents trying to curry favor by killing Rhaegar's children. >> Ned and Jamie arrive at Hayford and start preparing for battle. Still wrapped in Ned's cloak, Elia holds baby Aegon in her arms as she sits in front of her rescuer. Jamie has been carrying [music] Rhaenys and her cat the whole way. Gently, Ned helps Elia down from her horse and ushers her and Aegon into Hayford Castle. >> You'll be safe here, princess. I promise. Are you feeling all right? Do you need anything? >> Thank you for your concern, but I'm all right. Thanks in no small part to your heroism. Why did you risk your life for me? >> Because I believe a man should give his life to protect the innocent before allowing any harm to come to them. You and your children are innocent in this war. I would never have forgiven myself if I'd failed to save you. >> Thank [clears throat] you, Lord Stark. I can see why Ashara Dayne spoke so highly of you. >> She did? Really? >> Oh, you liked her as well. You have excellent taste. She's a very good friend of mine. Perhaps you could be wed like she supposed might happen. A good word from a princess of Dorne would help greatly. >> Much as I appreciate your kindness, I'm already married to Catelyn Tully. The possibility for me and Lady Ashara has passed. Though I will carry the memory of the tourney at Harrenhal in my heart, and you can call me Ned. All my friends call me Ned. >> I'm very sorry, Ned. I know Asha will be sad to know that you and her won't be together. >> There is something that I would like if you would be willing. I need to find my sister. Where did Rhaegar take her? >> Ned, I can never repay you for saving the lives of my children and me. Whatever help I can give you is yours. She is in Northern Dawn, in a tower just north of the Boneway. >> Able to contain himself, Ned embraces Elia and spins her around. When he comes to himself, he puts the princess down, then apologizes. Instead of being angry, Elia smiles and gently kisses him on the cheek. Now Elia and her children are safe. Ned and Jaime confer with Roose Bolton and Rickard Karstark. The ideal course is to simply hold the princess and her children to ensure Dorne's cooperation. They only sent 10,000 spears up the Boneway to the Trident, so likely there could be more. Tywin is in control of the capital and has likely declared himself king by this point. The princess is under mine and Jaime's protection. They are not hostages, Lord Bolton. You already advocated for the death of Ser Barristan. If you do something like that again with Princess Elia, you will not like the consequences. >> Fine. Our Ned guests who can't leave. >> So, what do you intend to do when your fearless leader discovers that you have the wife and children of his mortal enemy? >> I'll deal with Robert. I will not allow any harm to come to the princess or her children. >> Fine. On your head to be it. >> Soon, the rider from King's Landing arrives with news that Lord Tywin wished to turn over the city to King Robert, as well as offer his support to the new regime. Ned dislikes the futile attempts to cover up his attempt to murder, but since Gregor and Amory were dead, there was no proof that Tywin had ordered their deaths. When Robert hears about the sack, he's less than pleased about the work that will have to be done, and demands that Tywin finance the rebuilding of the city. As for Elia and the children, he's content to simply let Ned keep them as his guests in Winterfell. Heroes don't kill children, after all. Now, with Tywin's army not considered hostile, Ned marches south to lift the siege of Storm's End. On the way, he keeps the princess company, and he starts to form a friendship with Elia. Since he knows where to go, Ned quickly lifts the siege and leads a group of men down to Dorne, accompanied by Elia. When they arrive at the tower, the Kingsguard draw their weapons and stand ready. >> Get out of my way, sers. I'm here for my little sister, and if I have to go through you, I will. >> Don't make me kill you, Lord Stark. Our prince has commanded us to stay here. >> For a moment, it seems as though it will come to blows. Ned and Jamie draw their swords, though they are wary of Arthur. Before a fight can break out, Princess Elia walks forward. Immediately, the Kingsguard put the blades down and [music] bow to the princess. >> Arthur Dayne, you saw that yourself in that cloak you wear. I thought better of you. Ashara would be ashamed of you. What would you do if your sister was being held captive in a tower? You would kill the men keeping you from her, and you would be right to do so. Where were you when this man risked his own life to save mine? >> Eyes filled with shame, Arthur immediately backs down, allowing Ned and Elia inside. As soon as they enter, Ned sees that Lyanna is extremely frail and has just given birth. As soon as she sees Elia, Lyanna bursts into tears. >> I'm sorry, princess. I'm so sorry. He told me it was important that he needed another child, a daughter with silver hair and purple eyes. And Ned, I I didn't want any of this to happen. Father and Brandon >> I I know about all that, Lyanna. It hurts, but I know it wasn't your doing. Rhaegar evidently thought wrong. >> Ned swallows and takes the child, then glances at his sister. Lyanna strokes the baby's face, then turns her attention to Ned. What's his name? >> Rhaegar wanted to name the girl Visenya, if it was a girl, but when I asked if it was a boy, he said, almost offhandedly, that Jon, after his friend Jon Connington, would be a good name. Just like Aegon the Fifth named his son Duncan after Duncan the Tall. Please, promise me, Ned. Keep him safe. >> Jon is a good name. I will keep him safe. I promise. Lyanna smiles and leans back, eyes closing. Ned automatically hands little Jon to Lyanna so he can shake his sister. For a moment, he pleads with her to wake up, to stay strong, if not for him, then for her baby. It's no use. Ned starts to cry as he holds Lyanna's body, tears falling onto her face. Finally, Lyanna puts her hand on his shoulder and then, when the baby starts crying, she lets him start feeding and even sings to him. Ned glances away to preserve the princess's modesty and hands her a blanket to cover herself. >> So, what do you want to do? He's going to be in danger. >> I'll claim he's my son. Hide him under the snows of Winterfell where no one will ever know. >> What about all the men outside? They'll know that he's not your son. >> I trust these men with my life. If I swear them to secrecy, they will keep it quiet. Thank you for taking care of Jon. >> Of course, Ned. He needs a wetnurse and I don't see any better options. >> Sighing, Ned gives Lyanna a hug, which she leans into. For a moment, Ned looks down at [music] the princess holding Jon and feels something flickering in his mind. He immediately shoves it down then reluctantly lets her go. When they exit the tower, the rest of Ned's men know immediately what's happened. Some of them are angry at the dishonor done to their liege's sister, but after it's explained that Lyanna had left willingly, they're pacified. [music] All of them swear an oath to never reveal what went on here and claim that the boy is Ned's bastard if they're asked. Arthur and the others offer to help protect Jon, but Ned refuses. He doesn't want the Kingsguard drawing attention to the babe, so they'll have to go into hiding. Howland Reed can hide them in the Greywater Watch and claim they all died. Ned can take Jon back to Starfall. Arthur thanks Ned for his help, then they all pack up their Kingsguard armor and dress as common guards to avoid being noticed. When when they arrive at Starfall to return Dawn, Ashara Dayne comes out to meet them. Ned and Elia's eyebrows raise when they see she's heavily pregnant. After embracing Elia, Ashara quickly ushers them to a private room and Ned brings the disguised Arthur. Immediately after he's revealed, the two siblings embrace before Ashara lays out the story. Ned's expression falls when she tells him that before they'd met, she and Brandon had spent a night together. Elia sees just how sad the story makes Ned and puts her hand on his shoulder. At the end, Ashara asks Ned if there's a way he can hide her so that their parents can adopt the baby and pretend she's legitimate. Elia expects Ned to say no based on his expression, but instead he nods. She can go to Greywater Watch along with Arthur and the Kingsguard. Ashara gives Ned a grateful hug, then Elia before ushering the other woman for a private conversation. >> You like him, don't you, Elia? >> He's my rescuer, Ash. >> Of course, I like him. >> You know what I mean. He's married, likely with a child on the way. >> Oh, I hadn't heard about that. That's a shame. He's a very good man and would treat you and your children very well. >> That's why it's disappointing. But life isn't fair, is it? Would you be willing to help me with nursing Aegon and Jon on the way to the north? >> Of course. Actually, I was thinking do you think that if it's a girl, we could perhaps betroth her to Ned's little babe? If he turns out anything like Ned, I think he'll make a good match for my daughter. >> Though Ned is bemused, he agrees to the match between Jon and Ashara's unborn child. After Lyanna Dayne is born, they take a ship to Sunspear to let Doran and Oberyn know about Elia and her children's survival. Oberyn immediately pulls his sister into a hug, then holds little Aegon and Rhaenys. Doran takes Ned's hand and clasps them warmly. >> Lord Stark, you have given me such joy as I never expected to have. Dorne is eternally in your debt. Whatever you ask for shall be yours. >> I'm sorry to take the Princess Elia away so soon after returning her to you, Prince Doran, but Robert was very clear. Her and the children must come to Winterfell. I give you my word that no harm will come to them. >> Oberyn, Ned saved me and Aegon from the clutches of a giant, a real one. If any man can keep me safe, he will. >> [laughter] >> Did he now? Since you risked your own life to protect my sister, I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have keeping them safe. >> With that matter settled, Ned and Elia travel back toward the north. Along the way, Barristan Selmy joins them, saying he would rather guard Rhaegar's children than Robert's. When they arrive at Riverrun, an ashen-faced Edmure and Lord Hoster come out to meet them, the younger man holding a small boy in his arms. Ned glances between the two men in confusion, wondering where Catelyn is. Then he sees their expressions. >> No, not Cat, too. No, I'm sorry, Ned. It was a difficult birth. Cat got sick, and I've been looking after the lad and haven't let him out of my sight. >> Thank you, Ser Edmure. Can I take my son? >> Edmure hands Robb to Ned, who starts to rock the child gently. After Ned leaves Ashara in the King's Guard in Greywater Watch, he takes Elia and the children to Winterfell, where the rest of his men will go to their homes. Barbrey Dustin is especially happy to have her husband return, riding out to meet them when he comes back. Ned settles into his new role as Lord of Winterfell, and he and Elia raise the children. Jaime and Barristan also help, with Jaime bringing Barristan into the secret. As Ned and Elia both work together with their strange little family, the two grow closer and closer, often talking late into the night. Elia actually helps with giving Ned advice based on her own experience in the south. One day, Elia actually cuddles up with Ned, and he puts his arm around her so she can get closer. The northmen come to respect Elia and still treat her like a princess. >> [music] >> Rhaenys soon calls Ned father, which makes Elia both happy and sad. Often Ned will go to the godswood to be alone and polish Ice after helping with the children or petitioners, until one day when Elia comes to join him, automatically he sets Ice aside and lifts his arm so she can curl up against him. >> This is a wonderful place. Thank you for bringing me here. I love this place and the people here. >> The Northmen love you as well, Elia. You're one of us now. Same with your children. >> Thank you. That means a great deal. Ned, why do you come here so often? You can tell me. >> Well, I often need some time to collect my thoughts. I do care about my people, but after giving so much of myself to them each day, I need to get that back at the end of the day. >> Rhaegar was actually quite similar, though he didn't much like interacting with others. You remind me of him, honestly. The best parts of him, at least. >> Well, I'll take that as kindly meant, Elia. Do you miss him? >> I do, yes. He was kind to me, though I will always feel a sting when I think of the tourney. [music] I felt so hurt when he put the crown on your sister's head. I was pregnant and the emotions were so strong that I felt overwhelmed by everything. >> Brandon wanted to kill Rhaegar then and there. We had to restrain him from jumping the fence and attacking the prince. >> Do you resent Brandon at all? I'm sorry if this is a painful subject. >> Honestly, yes. It seems like I've been second choice to him all my life. I was a showered second choice, I was Cat's second choice, my father's second choice of heir. It's not a good feeling. >> I know that feeling well. Rhaegar ran off with Lyanna after I couldn't have a third child. He kept talking about a vision he'd had right when he told me that Aegon's song would be the song of ice and fire. He claimed that he'd seen a girl with silver hair and purple eyes standing in the room, clear as day, wearing a fine dress with a dragon on her shoulder. >> That's quite the vision. Well, it looks like he was likely somewhat mad. >> And perhaps. I I do know how much it hurts to feel discarded or like I'm a second choice. >> At that point Ned pulls away and looks into her eyes. Gently he cups her cheek. Elia, you know one second choice. You are the sun at noon and all others are stars reflecting your radiance. >> Warmth rises inside Elia. Impulsively she pulls Ned into a kiss. Ned wraps [music] his arms around her and holds her close making her feel safe. When the kiss ends Elia rests her forehead against Ned's and smiles. Soon the two are married in the Winterfell Godswood with Barristan and Jamie as witnesses along with the children. When the news reaches Robert the king toasts his friend and wishes him every happiness. In an effort to keep Tywin somewhat happy the king married Cersei but it's an unhappy union. Cersei hates Robert's drunkenness and whoring while Robert cannot abide her shrewish and peevish nature. The assault on Dragonstone goes as expected but the Targaryen children are spirited [music] away with nobody discovering them. Among those displeased with the recent turn of events is Varys. The spider had hoped that the deaths of Elia and her children would allow him an opening to create chaos but the wolf had spoiled his plans. In order to come up with a new strategy Varys sails [music] to Pentos to confer with Illyrio. >> Did your plan succeed? Shall I begin preparing our little pretender? >> No, they did not. There were complications. >> Yes, complications. Those do tend to happen. >> What kind of complications? >> The meddlesome fool of the northman Eddard Stark managed to rescue Elia Martell and her children from Tywin Lannister's dogs and has brought to Winterfell. He's even married her. Now if war comes Dorne will fight for the princess and her lord husband. >> Oh, that's very bad actually. We need a new plan. >> Yes, we can't pass off our black dragon as a red one not when a legitimate one is in Winterfell. >> Far from my grasp. Also the queen's brother is far from her meaning that we need an alternative way to sow chaos in the realm to prepare for our inevitable attack on the Seven Kingdoms. I'm still amazed that luck brought those two into an inn you owned in the depths of Flea Bottom where your eyes and ears could report it. And for certain he won't come south. >> He's taken his duty to protect Rhaegar's children very seriously. Perhaps someone else could be used to cuckold King Robert. >> Cersei was infatuated with Prince Rhaegar. Perhaps someone who looks like him could be used. >> It may be difficult since he won't be as well placed to impregnate the queen. >> We just need one now. Ideally, the boy needs to have blonde hair so that the suspicion isn't placed until the right time. Also, there's someone I'd like to recruit. Petyr Baelish has a good mind. And he is amply motivated to dislike Lord Stark for taking the object of his infatuation away from him. >> After several discussions, Varys and Illyrio settle on a plan. The boy they had wanted to pass as Aegon [music] will instead simply be Daemon Blackfyre the Fourth and would be fostered with the Golden Company and even trained as a warrior and put into combat as soon as possible. Viserys and Daenerys must be taken and Daenerys wed to Daemon. Though Varys knows that there is a possibility that the girl might be able to hatch dragons if the right conditions were met. Daenerys must be impregnated and if their Blackfyre could do it, then so much the better. After a few years, Elia discovers she's pregnant. Immediately, her and Ned are worried, but the girl named Lyarra Stark is born healthily and Elia only takes a little longer than normal to recover. As Aegon grows up, it's clear that his health is more like his mother. He often tires easily and is shorter than Jon and Robb by a significant margin. Ned encourages him in studying, but often Aegon looks at Jon and Robb as they play outside. Eventually, he gets up the courage to ask them if they'll let him join, even carrying a wooden sword carved to look like Blackfyre. Despite knowing they're good boys, Elia is worried that Robb and Jon might exclude him since he can't keep up with them. Her heart melts when after Aegon hesitantly asks to join them for their game with swords, Jon and Robb let him fight with them. During the fight, they're careful not to hurt him. When Aegon seems to tire, Jon actually gives his half-brother a piggyback ride, pretending he's a dragon while Aegon swings at Robb, yelling out that he's Aegon the Conqueror and on Balerion the Black Dread, even as the other boys call out the names of their heroes. This sight of the boys playing together and including her son in the game makes Elia cry. [music] Rhaenys notices her mother crying and tugs at her arm. >> Why are you crying, Mama? Aegon seems happy. >> Not all crying is bad, Rhaenys. I'm crying because I'm happy to see your little brother playing with his brothers. >> That doesn't make sense. >> Often, life doesn't make sense, sweetling. You'll figure that out when you start realizing boys aren't just for hitting with swords. >> Nah, I'm going to be like Daena the Defiant and never get married. Boys are stupid, except [music] Robb. He's nice. >> Elia raises her eyebrows and glances at Robb, who is now acting as Aegon's steed, now dubbed Caraxes due to his red hair. Grinning, the older boy swings at Jon, who is covering his eye with a strip of cloth and pretending pretending to be Aemon the One-Eyed against Aegon's Daemon the Rogue Prince. When the snow gets too strong, Robb carries Aegon back to the main keep, the tan silver-haired boy laughing and holding his toy Blackfyre [music] in his hand. Before they go in, Elia leans down and hugs Jon and Robb, thanking them for playing with her son. >> He's our brother. We'd never turn him away. Besides, it's not every day you get to pretend to be Balerion the Black Dread. >> That nearly makes Elia cry again. The North might be a cold place, but the people here were loyal and good. Instead, she hugs Jon again, so tight the boy thinks he might get short of breath. Then the princess ushers them inside, out of the snowfall. The games continue, changing from knights and swords to dragons and riders, with the other boys alternating acting as Aegon's dragon, going through the many Targaryens that have lived. Though eventually, Rhaenys gets the courage to act to play dragon rider as well. When they do, she immediately hops onto Rob's back and raises a wooden version of Dark Sister. >> I'm Rhaenys, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Fear me and my great beast, Meraxes. >> I don't want to be a girl dragon. >> You're being ridden by a girl, so you're a girl dragon. >> Jon, can I trade you, please? >> You're not trading me around, Rob Stark. You are my dragon and I mean to ride you to victory. So, Angus, Meraxes. >> Jaime and Barristan start howling with laughter while Elia covers her mouth and almost doubles over giggling, while Ned tries very hard not to chuckle. Rob humors Rhaenys, but when it becomes clear she's deliberately choosing him every single time for every single game, he starts shooting a pleading look towards Jon, who chuckles at his brother as Rhaenys [music] climbs onto his back again. Eventually, Rhaenys and Aegon get too big for dragons and riders, though Aegon remains very frail despite Jaime and Barristan's attempt to train him. In King's Landing, a Volantene nobleman by the name of Illan attracts the attention of Queen Cersei. The man quickly grows to be one of her favorite at court. One night, Cersei receives some instructions, and after she follows them into a secret passage, she finds Illan waiting for her. The two spend the night together, and soon the queen announces that she's pregnant. The affair continues with Cersei and Illan secretly meeting in the passage of the Red Keep. Eventually, once the nobleman's task is done, he slips away and vanishes. One day, Rob and Rhaenys go on a walk through the godswood, and Rhaenys sidles up with him. Initially, Rob looks at her in confusion, then Rhaenys kisses him to eliminate any doubts he might have. Jon spies them through a window. For a moment, he just watches them, feeling somewhat jealous despite himself. Rob had Winterfell and a pretty girl who liked him. Why couldn't Jon have the same? Elia walks up to him and follows his gaze out the window to see Rhaenys and Rob kissing. Her initial instinct is to laugh at how amusing it was to watch them fumble, until she sees Jon's sad expression, and she takes his hand. >> Jon, dear, what's on your mind? >> It's nothing, Mother. I just >> You're jealous of your brother, aren't you? >> I'm not. >> That's a lie that would merit getting your mouth washed out, Jon Snow. Is it that you like Rhaenys yourself? >> No, it's not that. It's just Rob's the heir, and he and Rhaenys are going to be married. I just feel alone, you know? >> Seeing the pain in Jon's eyes, Elia wraps her arms around him, resting [music] her head on his chest. Jon returns the hug, and Elia feels the same safety that Ned provided, but this one both ways, as if Jon and her were protecting each other. Gently, Elia places her hand on Jon's face. >> Jon, you're not alone. You'll never be alone. You are my boy, even if I didn't carry you. I care for you as if you're my own son, and if anybody makes you feel like you're not, >> [music] >> I will deal with them accordingly. >> Thank you. That means a lot. >> Well, I've been thinking. I had a good friend back in Dorne, and she had a sister who's about your age. We discussed betrothing you and her, and her parents should have been keeping her available. >> Really? Well, uh that's that's incredible. Thank you. What's her name? >> Allyria Dayne, the youngest child of the Lord and Lady of Starfall. And if she's anything like her sister at her age, I imagine that you'll be most satisfied. >> A Dayne of Starfall? You're not playing a prank on me. >> Elia smiles and pats his cheek, then gasps as he picks her up and swings her around happily. When he sets her down, Elia laughs and pats his shoulder. Down in King's Landing, the Queen has given birth to a mix of three children, most with golden hair. Though the middle girl with silver hair is attributed to Robert's grandmother being a Targaryen princess. Only Jon Arryn suspects something to be wrong, and he quickly enlists Stannis in investigating the potential parentage. However, after the third child, the mysterious Volantene nobleman had disappeared into thin air, leaving nothing behind. Little Finger and Varys discovered the investigation, and not wanting the secret to be revealed too early, they make sure that Lord Arryn dies, which causes Stannis to retreat to Dragonstone. Soon it's found that Rhaenys is pregnant, and [music] a baby girl is born right as the news of Jon Arryn's death arrives. Once she's recovered, Robb and Rhaenys slip down into the crypts. When they get near the tomb of Cregan Stark, they hear a sound like a low growl. Robb and Rhaenys' eyes bulge when three dragons the size of hounds emerge from the darkness. One silver, one red as blood, and one black as midnight prowling in the torchlight. Robb lets out a curse [music] and puts himself in front of his wife. Growling, the dragons start advancing toward them. Robb grabs Rhaenys' hand and takes off running toward the door as the four dragons chase after him. Before they can get to the door, the silver dragon slams her to the ground while the others flap around Robb. Robb's yells and Rhaenys' screams draw Aegon and Jon's attention as the creature flaps around. The other boys run down the steps into the crypt, eyes flickering up toward the dragons. Immediately, they rush toward the beasts waving their arms. >> [music] >> The red and black dive toward them and knock them down. Robb's first instinct is to draw his sword and kill the creatures before they hurt her his siblings. However, [music] when he looks closer, he sees that the dragons are licking their faces. Where did they come from? Who cares? We have dragons. And Jon has one, too. This is fantastic. >> This is very bad. We need to smuggle them out. No one can know about this. >> Let's get some crates. We need to keep the dragons safe and make sure nobody knows about them. >> They're going to need to be big crates. They're the size of big dogs. >> At that point, Robb takes charge and goes up to find some large crates. Once they're found, he and the other children put the dragons into the crates and start carrying them out into a wagon. As they do, Ned and Elia walk up to them and ask to know what's going on. >> Uh mother, nothing. We're just taking some supplies to to >> Bear Island. Maege has been asking for some extra steel. >> Then why are those crates moving? >> Well, >> [music] >> um we funny story, that. >> Impatiently, Elia walks over and peeps into one of the crates. Immediately, she jumps back, her hand on her mouth. Ned also looks then stares at the three of them. >> Dragons? There are bloody dragons in Winterfell. How did you find Vermithrax's clutch of eggs, let alone hatch them? >> They were in the crypts. We just found them hatched. Please, Father, let us hide them away. And why did one of them go to Jon, not Rob? >> Jon, he's not my son. He's your half-brother. >> Aegon's jaw drops and Rhaenys screams with joy and starts hugging Jon while jumping up and down. The dark-haired boy stares at Ned. Seeing his shock, Elia gives Jon a hug, which Ned joins. Now that everything is out in the open, Ned gives instructions to them. They had to get to the wall. The gift was mostly abandoned and if wildlings ever came over, the dragons would kill them. Rob stays behind, though he wants to go with the rest of them. Ned says he needs to be there for his and Rhaenys's daughter. The three of them head north toward the wall. Once they arrive, the three siblings head to the Nightfort and let the dragons loose inside the castle. Once they're certain the dragons are safe, Rhaegar's three children all sit down together and around a fire. >> I can't believe you're our real brother, not just our foster brother. >> It all feels so crazy. Honestly, it's pretty incredible that we're all blood. Mother always said that Father talked about having the three heads of the dragon together. What if it's us? What if we can actually take back the Seven Kingdoms? The three of us. Once our dragons are grown, it'll be like a conquest. >> We've got an army. The North can be the start of our conquest. Dorne will rise up for us as well. Even the Reach might come to our banner. >> So, I guess Rob will be our only Baratheon. >> Of course, we need someone to be our tactician on the ground. Honestly, this is fantastic. We can do whatever we want now. The three of us together can make our own rules from now on. Once our dragons are grown, we'll take back our birthright. >> For a while, the three siblings talk about all their grand plans for the Seven Kingdoms once they take them. All of them agree that Aegon should be king and that Jon should be his hand. As the three of them rest in the abandoned castle, a dream of a cave beyond the wall enters their minds. When they all wake up and describe the dead men and the roots, all of them know it's no ordinary dream. However, they can't all go beyond the wall and not with the king coming. If Rhaenys and Aegon aren't at Winterfell, Robert will be furious. [music] However, Jon won't be noticed since everyone thinks he's just a bastard. So, decided, the three siblings embrace and Jon goes to find a way to get across the wall to the cave. As soon as they arrive, Ned and Elia quickly usher them inside only a few hours before Robert and the royal party arrive. >> [music] >> When Robert sees Aegon and Rhaenys, he raises his eyebrows at the two disparate siblings. One was a bookish-looking lad with tan skin and a slight potbelly and the other was a taller Dornish girl with silver streaks in her hair. He'd half expected them to look like Rhaegar, but instead, they couldn't look more different. Initially, Elia wants to shrink away from Robert after he picks up Ned in a bear hug. Then, she steels herself. Thankfully, Robert's hug is gentle. >> Princess, I'm glad to see you well and making my friend happy. You couldn't be married [clears throat] to a better man. >> I'm well aware of how fortunate I am. I could almost thank you for making me a widow. >> Ned initially stiffens, wondering if his friend would take offense, but instead, Robert bursts out laughing and asks Ned to come to the crypts. As she passes, Cersei shoots Elia a glare, a very jealous glare. Elia simply curtsies and offers the queen some refreshment only to be curtly dismissed. After Ned is asked to be Hand, he discusses it with Elia. He's reluctant to leave, especially with the dragon situation, and he's worried about Jon being beyond the wall. However, when Elia expresses her worry that if Ned doesn't become Hand, Tywin Lannister might be given the badge, Ned agrees. However, when he broaches the idea of taking Lyanna with him south, Elia flatly refuses, citing the fact that she did not want her daughter going anywhere near a Lannister court when when not old enough to protect herself. Across the narrow sea, Daemon Blackfyre is introduced to Viserys and Daenerys by Illyria. Immediately, Viserys is furious at the idea of his sister marrying one of the line of the Blackfyre dragons. >> You would have me align with the pretenders of House Blackfyre, Illyria? How dare you? >> Peace, Prince Viserys. Surely you must understand that the enemy of your enemy is your friend. The Blackfyres are dragons, just black ones. And in these times, surely the dragons must stand together. >> But I am still to be king, right? This Daemon will be my sister's husband and nothing else. >> Of course. Perhaps he can serve as your Hand of the King. There are a number of houses who would be friendly to our cause, such as the Tyrells and possibly even the Lannisters. It was Ned Stark who killed your father after all and stole your brother's wife and children to take north. With those two families on your side, then the Seven Kingdoms would be yours. >> When Illyrio and Daemon are discussing matters, Daemon and Daenerys walk through the the garden. The boy often fiddles [music] with the pommel of his sword, Blackfyre, almost as if he's nervous. Daenerys sees the awkwardness and takes his hand. Swallowing, Daemon attempts [music] to find words, but the girl in front of him causes him to lose all power of speech. Finally, he manages to get control of his tongue. >> I imagine this is quite a lot. I'm not sure if you're open to any of this, but I will say that if you want, I will be very sad. >> Why? You've only just met me. >> Honestly, Princess, I feel like this was fated to happen. As if our two souls have crossed oceans of time to find each other, to make up for what happened with Daemon Blackfyre and his Daenerys Targaryen. He lost her and started a war for her, but died in the attempt. Perhaps this is the way that we can heal the rift between our families and start something new. But I want this to be something we decide together. I know that I want you, but if you don't desire me, I'm happy to step away. Regardless, we will restore our house. >> Daenerys tilts her head at the Blackfyre lad. He was probably only a little older than her and he seemed like he was genuine and sweet. Smiling she takes his hand and rests her forehead against his. A few days later they are married and travel to meet with the Golden Company. Viserys often grows angry at the respect the Golden Company pays Damon, especially since he's the older of the two. Daenerys is also impressed by the lad seeing him in a confidence that hadn't been there when he was courting her. Viserys begins taking out his aggression on Danny calling her a bastard's [ __ ] Finally, he lets that slip when Damon is around. >> What did you call my wife? I must have misheard you. >> You heard what I said, Blackfyre. Do you really want to do this, Viserys? Have you actually been in a fight before? A real one, to the death? No quarter or surrender? >> Who do you think you are? >> Viserys cuts off as Damon grabs his throat and forces him to his knees. Danny stares at Damon as he easily manhandles her brother like a petulant child. >> I am Damon Blackfyre the Fourth. I killed my first man at 13. I fought in two significant wars and [clears throat] several battles across the disputed lands in the rest of Essos. I've led every kind of military unit from archers and infantry to cavalry and elephants. That's who I am. Listen to me very carefully, Viserys. I love that woman with a passion a flea like you could never begin to understand. Insult her again and I will not hesitate to kill you. >> With that Damon pushes Viserys backward. Rather than face the young man, Viserys runs away. Turning back to Daenerys, Damon apologizes, but before he can get two words out she wraps her arms around him and kisses him. After a few [music] weeks it's discovered that the princess is pregnant. Jon travels for a few days to the cave near the Fist of the First Men and enters the cave to find a dead man draped in the weirwood roots. >> Good of you to come. I summoned you here to warn you and give you some instructions for the future. >> All right. Start talking. >> So like maker, similar personalities. >> Fine. >> I'll be brief. It is very good that your sister fulfilled the pact of ice and fire to help hatch the dragon eggs in Winterfell's crypts. You will need them before the end of all this. For the time being, your enemy will be Tywin Lannister and the Baratheon brothers, but there is a more dangerous enemy that will be coming to face you. So, the king is against us? That would make sense. He killed Rhaegar on the Trident. No, Robert Baratheon will soon die. It is brothers who seek the Iron Throne due to the queen producing nothing but illegitimate children. Tywin will seek to keep his grandson on the throne. It is up to you to face the armies of the Stormlands, Reach, and Westerlands. You do not have much time. Take the sword and go, and be ready. I see dragons fighting dragons and a realm set on fire. Soon the dragons will be large enough for battle, especially if they stay near the wall. The powerful magic will act as an accelerant for their growth. >> Jon quickly grabs Dark Sister and runs to his horse. When he arrives in Winterfell, he immediately meets with his siblings and starts planning for the future. Rhaenys and Aegon are excited to hear about Blood Raven and see Dark Sister, but Jon quickly shifts the conversation to the warnings he'd received. If Robert was going to die and the succession was broken due to the queen's children being bastards, then they would have to start preparing for war. Rob does not want to wait until the official news reaches them, but he does put out the word to begin rallying for a possible war. There was also a warning about dragons fighting dragons. Perhaps Blood Raven was warning about the girl Rhaegar had seen in his vision being an enemy in the future. Rather than keeping Dark Sister for himself, Jon offers it to Rob, citing that he's going to be the man on the ground. When Ned arrives in the capital, he's shocked at how much debt the crown is under. On top of the strange investigation of Jon Arryn, Little Finger provides his help to accelerate the investigation. Slowly, the new hand pieces together the visits to various bastards, then discovers the discrepancies along with some odd stories of a strange Volantene nobleman who the queen had seemed to favor. Once he's gotten sufficient proof, he plans to bring it to Robert. >> [music] >> However, Robert dies in a hunting accident. Ned attempts to lead a coup, even going to the throne room. Before he can do anything, men burst into the throne room wearing gold cloaks and Lannister red. Ned and his men are immediately surrounded, then several tackle him to the ground. Ned drops to the ground trying to draw his sword, but the damage is done. Little Finger stands over Ned and places a dagger against his throat. >> This is for Cat. >> Ned closes his eyes wishing he could see Elia one last time. Before the knife can cut into him, Cersei has her men grab Ned and drag him off to the black cells, citing the fact that they need him as a hostage in case the north to rebel. Also, they need a living scapegoat to make sure that they can claim Robert was killed in a coup by Ned. Tywin's army is tasked with invading the Riverlands and holding off the north. As soon as Stannis hears about the coup and the new king being crowned, he starts spreading the information that he and Jon Arryn had accumulated and declares himself king. Renly escapes in the chaos and rides to Storm's End, sending out word that he means to press his own claim. When the raven reaches the north that Ned is accused of treason for killing the king after being manipulated by Rhaegar's widow and is now being held in the black cells, Elia covers her mouth and starts crying. Rhaenys and Aegon hold their mother and try their best to comfort her, while Jon and Robb exchange angry looks. >> Looks like that tree wizard was right. Let's go south. Do you have the saddles ready? Maegan just finished them a couple of days ago. He gave me a look like I was mad for even suggesting it though. I'll ride to the nightfort. They might not be large enough to ride, but they'll at least make things difficult. >> While Jon takes the night to rest before riding north, he dreams he's within the nightfort looking through the red dragon's eyes. While this place is cold, drinking from the melting ice seemed to fill them [music] as if they were eating regular food. Instinctively, Jon pushes the red dragon to come south. Growling, [music] the red dragon snaps at the silver and the black, causing them to rise up and fly toward the south. The next morning, the dragons, now grown to the size of elephants, land on the wind walls of Winterfell. After they've been outfitted with saddles, Jon, Rhaenys, and Aegon fly across the north to gather support as ravens [music] are sent to the Riverrun and Dorne. Soon, the northern armies march south with Rhaenys on her silver dragon, Meraxes. Along the way, they pick up the Kingsguard from Greywater Watch. As soon as Walder Frey sees this princess riding her silver dragon circling his castle, he immediately lets them through without any protest. Rather than waiting, Rhaenys and Robb fly to Riverrun and the surrounding towns to gather Riverlanders to meet the Lannisters along a set of hills near Pinkmaiden. Jon and Aegon fly toward Dragonstone on Garweth and then Balerion. Roaring, the two beasts land on the fortifications, causing everyone to run around in terror. Stannis quickly emerges and glares up at the two dragon riders, jaw tight from his clenched teeth. >> No need to panic. Our intentions are strictly honorable. So, the dragons have returned. What exactly do you want, princeling? >> It's quite simple. Your help rescuing my stepfather from the dragons of King's Landing and then securing the Seven Kingdoms. >> A restoration of the Targaryen dynasty. You really think I'd serve you after the rebellion? >> Lord Stannis, what exactly do you want? Do you want the throne because it's your right or do you simply wish to be recognized as a competent man? If it's the former, I can't really do anything, but if it's the latter, I can grant you that desire. >> And how would you do that? >> By naming you Lord Marshal of the Seven Kingdoms. I'm going to institute a standing army. We shall pull levies from all the crown's domains and create a new army. I imagine that if we could make a professional army to loan out to Essos, then I imagine that the crown's coffers could swell. I would need a capable man to lead and organize such a force from a new seat in Harrenhal with its original lands. Lady Waynwood can be compensated with a a manageable keep. I can think of no one better than you. Ned Stark speaks very highly of you, Lord Stannis. I hope that he was right. >> Ned Stark. Never would have thought. >> You are just as honorable. We need men like you. Will you accept my hand in friendship? >> After a moment of thought, >> [music] >> Stannis bends the knee. A pair of dragons were fairly convincing. Ned is sitting in his cell when the door starts to [music] rattle. He wants to stand up, but he's too stiff. The door opens to reveal a small man twirling a set of keys around [music] his finger. >> Lord Tyrion, what are you doing here? >> Surprise. This is a rescue. >> Why are you doing this? >> Because my brother owes you his life and honor. When you cut off the mad king's head, you made it so that he wouldn't be called an oath breaker or a king slayer. This is my way of paying you back for your honor. Here, you're going to need this chest, this false beard, and these servant's clothes. Oh, we need to shave your real beard first. >> Ned accepts the chest and shakes the dwarf's hand before allowing the dwarf to quickly shave off his beard. The two men slip through the Red Keep with Ned dressed as a servant and then head out into a carriage headed down toward Harrenhal. When Tywin arrives at Pink Maiden, he finds himself facing off against an army of rivermen arranged on the hills right as a storm breaks over them. Tywin glares at the riverland line irritated at the rain making things more difficult for him. Initially, he sends his cavalry to try breaking the lines, but the enemy has entrenched themselves. Once that proves unsuccessful, [music] Tywin sends his spearmen and heavy infantry to break through. Slowly, the riverlands begin to fold and Tywin pushes forward. If he can break the enemy center, he could split the enemy army and flank both halves. The riverlander line opens revealing Princess Rhaenys and Meraxes. The dragon rises up and blasts the Lannister lines. Tywin's vanguard bursts into flames turning the victory charge into a mad defeated retreat. Tywin stares in amazement as the dragon lays waste to his men right as a large number of Northmen cavalry hit his own men from the side. Tywin looks from side to side trying to find a way out. Soon, a group of Riverlanders push toward him, and Tywin is forced to draw his sword and fight. When Rob finds the old lion, Tywin is holding off three men with his sword in hand. >> There's still time to surrender, Lord Tywin. >> I will not surrender to a wolf pup. >> Fine. Have it your way. >> With that, the young wolf and the old lion battle for life and kingdom. Rhaenys watches as her husband and the man who tried to kill her as a babe lock blades. Rob is younger, but Tywin's armor is bulky and mostly for show, limiting his movements. Rob finally lands a blow on Tywin's leg, causing the older man to grimace and limp backward, right as Dark Sister goes through the eye slit in his helmet. Lannisters break and run toward the Golden Tooth, not wanting to face the dragon or allies. Rhaenys dismounts and runs to [music] Rob, letting her swing her around and hold her close. While Rhaenys and Rob defeat Tywin's forces, Jon, Aegon, and Stannis fly to King's Landing and take it by storm. With the dragons acting as support, the gates are blasted open, allowing Stannis's allies to break into the city. Aegon and Jon land their dragons on the walls of Maegor's Holdfast, the dragons roaring in unison. >> Where is Eddard Stark? I want him released immediately. >> Lord Stark escaped four days ago. >> We don't know where he is. >> Oh, really? Well then, good for him. Anyway, the city is ours, so I'd advise you all to surrender. If you have problems, I've got a tall, balding man with a rather short temper and a large, scaly, fire-breathing friend who'd be happy to take your complaints. Take your pick. >> Not wanting to face the dragon's fury or Stannis, the soldiers drag Cersei and her children out, and Aegon has them imprisoned in Stannis installed as Lord Marshal of the Seven Kingdoms. Soon, Rob and Rhaenys arrive with Ned and Tyrion, and their attention turns to the Reach and Renly's host. The two sides meet at the Gold Road. Renly's eyes widen when he sees the three-headed dragon banner mixed in with the other standards. However, he readies his Stormlands host to face the enemy. As his men charge, a series of roars draws his attention toward the sky. In unison, the dragons descend toward his men and start carving lines of fire through their ranks, >> [music] >> causing them to break and run right as the Northmen advance. Renly flees from the field to be caught and brought before Aegon and his siblings. >> You're Aegon, son? You're not what I expected. Yes, I have a pot belly. Your point? It's just, well, I didn't expect you to look like that. >> Well, my life is full of those little disappointments. So, I would prefer not to kill you. I've heard you're a good friend to the Tyrells, and they have always been loyal to my family. Also, you weren't there during the rebellion. Will you be content to simply rule the Stormlands under me? >> Renly, seeing the writing on the wall, bends the knee. When the Targaryen army arrives at Highgarden, Mace Tyrell immediately pledges his fealty to the dragons and offers his daughter to the new king. Aegon accepts, though he is slightly self-conscious of his frail body and pot belly when he sees how pretty his bride will be. However, he is somewhat comforted by how kind she is to him. Soon, the lords of the realm arrive to witness the coronation of King Aegon the Sixth of his name and his marriage to Queen Margaery Tyrell. Ned and Elia watch proudly as Jon places the crown on his brother's head, then raises his hand above his head accompanied by the roar of dragons. At the dance, Jon sits [music] back and watches, the Hand of the King pin on his lapel and Dark Sister on his hip. Robb had given it back to him saying he would someday have Ice and Jon would need a good sword. His eyes flick to the side as Elia walks over to him accompanied by a beautiful dark-haired lady with purple eyes. >> Jon, this is a Lady Dayne, the girl I told you about. Elia, this is Jon Targaryen. Your mother and I talked of betrothing you when you two were infants, but it's finally time you should meet. >> I've heard a great deal about you from Princess Elia, Jon Targaryen. I would like to know more of this dragon and rider game of yours, but first, shall we have a dance? >> Jon glances at Elia, who gives him a wink and a kiss on the cheek before placing Jon's hand in Illyria's and encouraging [music] them toward the dance floor. Jon is somewhat awkward, but Illyria easily guides him through the steps. The young people seem completely absorbed with each other as if everyone else had vanished. Smiling, Elia walks over to Ned and casually bumps her hip against his. In answer, he raises his arm so she can lean her head against his shoulder while he pulls her close. I saw that. Thank you. >> He's just like you were when you were his age. You needed Brandon to help you talk to Ashara, so I decided to give our boy a bit of a nudge in the right direction. Honestly, it was very sweet watching that and I think this will have a happier ending. >> I have my happy ending, Elia. I have had it for the last 16 years and I wouldn't have it any other way. >> Smiling, Elia cuddles up against Ned watching their children and their spouses dance together. Damon sits next to Daenerys as she screams and cries from the pain. The midwife was trying to get her to push the baby out, but the birth was extremely difficult. Finally, the baby comes out. As soon as she sees it, Daenerys screams in horror. It is a strange alien thing with bat wings and a tail, dead from the moment he came out. Damon stares down at his son, then at Dany. As Dany starts crying, Damon puts his arm around her. When Viserys sees the baby, he lets out a derisive laugh. >> It's your bastard, Blood Blackfyre. You're no true dragon. Sing with my [ __ ] sister. That doesn't >> Blackfyre flies from its scabbard and swings Viserys so fast the prince barely has time to leap backward and draw his own sword. Dany puts her hand to her mouth as her brother and her husband fight. Damon quickly maneuvers Viserys out of the tent away from Daenerys, but once he's sure he's away from his wife, the last scion of House Blackfyre unleashes all of his deadly skill on Viserys. The beggar king is rapidly forced onto the defensive as Damon [music] presses him. Finally, Damon disarms Viserys and places Blackfyre against his throat. Blubbering, Viserys stares up at Daemon, begging for his life. Daemon is about to ignore his plea and kill him when Daenerys stumbles out and puts her hand on his arm to forestall the death blow. Daemon takes a long, calming breath, then puts up his blade and motions to his men to restrain Viserys. For hours, Daenerys wanders the camp holding the little baby Rhaegar's [music] twisted body. Daemon eventually goes to her and takes her hand. >> Daenerys, please, let me take him. He's gone. We should put him to rest in the morning. You need to rest, love. >> He's my son, my first son. Please, don't take him away from me. >> I know. He was my son, too. I'm here for you. And I need you. This is hard for me as well. I wanted to raise the boy with you, but now we shall never even get to meet him. >> Carefully, Daemon removes little Rhaegar from Dany's arms, then hands him to a soldier so that he could be wrapped in a black and red shroud before his pyre on the morrow. Daenerys reaches out to her arms to her son, but Daemon holds her tight and strokes her hair. Finally, Daenerys breaks down crying into his shoulder as he escorts her to their tent so she can rest. That night, Daenerys tosses and turns, dreams and visions assaulting her mind. At one point, she screams and starts crying at her face, but Daemon restrains her before she can do more than scratch at her face. She continues to writhe and howl as the dragon eggs start shaking and quivering. Despite every attempt to wake her, Daenerys remains unconscious despite her writhing. Occasionally, a few words pass her lips as if she's arguing with someone or something, but it's indecipherable save for one word, Bloodraven. Daemon frowns, wondering why she would say that name, but he doesn't try waking her. Instead, he stays by her side and holds her hand. In the darkest hour of the night, Daenerys lets out a scream of pain and clutches at her head as if she were trying to hold her skull together. Daemon flinches back, then prepares to restrain her if she starts trying to harm herself. Instead, she collapses barely breathing. Finally, when dawn breaks, she awakens. Damon heaves a sigh of relief. There's a strange, wild look in her eyes that there hadn't been before, but at least she was awake. When she has the men build a pyre, setting the three dragon eggs on the pyre, Damon assumes that it's some ritual she'd heard of. Initially, Damon has no qualms until she calls for Viserys to be brought. The weak man rages and cries by turns as he's dragged before Daenerys. Without a word, Daenerys grabs [music] Viserys's hair and opens his throat, spraying blood over the pyre and the dragon eggs. Damon is initially surprised at his wife's brutal behavior, but at last, Viserys will no longer be an irritant. When the fires start to licking at her dead brother and son, Dany starts to walk toward the fire after it's been lit. Eyes widening, Damon is about to rush after her, but when he does, the fire swirls around her, forcing him backward. Hand going over his eyes to shield from the heat, Damon stares into the fire, seeing Daenerys raise her arms and start singing in High Valyrian. They are the words of an ancient spell, and Damon can't fully understand them. Shadows swirl within the flames, dragons, men, and other things that he cannot identify. Then, a loud crack rips through the air, and the fire goes from blazing to coals in seconds. The flames rippling backward along the rows of trenches to the central pyre. The fire abruptly swirls around Daenerys in a pillar of flame, then trails away. Damon stares as Daenerys emerges from the fire, three dragons draped around her. As one, the men of the Golden Company drop to their knees before her. >> I am Daenerys of House Blackfyre. No more will I be a frightened pawn in the games of others. I will be the storm that cleanses this world. I shall make this world anew with a scourge of dragonfire. And all who defy me shall be made into ash and bone. >> That's our theory.
