What if the flood from Halo arrived in Star Wars? Let's explore the depths of the scenario in the video. The Resolute drifts through the debris field as it investigates the twisted remains of a foreign vessel. It had appeared on the edge of Republic space near a frontier world. Although they detected no signs of activity, Anakin leads a boarding party to investigate what happened. All right, Rex. Tell me what you see from the Resolute. No sign of activity, sir. By the looks of it, the ship was bisected by something. The cuts are too neat to have been a battle. We've managed to decipher the language. It says "Forward unto dawn." Wait. Scanners are picking up a faint energy reading from a cryo chamber deep inside. Could be some kind of stasis pod. Anakin leads his troops down the darkened halls to the ship's cryo chambers, careful to avoid the twisted metal. They find only one inhabited cryo tube. Through the glass, they see a massive humanoid in imposing green armor. Anakin orders the troops to move the cryo pod to the Resolute so they can inspect it properly. As they move to begin cutting the tubes, a blue woman appears from the nearby holo tank. Maybe I can help. Oh, hello there. Who are you? The hologram flickers faintly as she looks up at Anakin and his men. Her image distorts several times as she tries to call something. I I'm Cortana. You have to help us. We've been trapped here for almost 4 years years. Don't worry, Cortana. We'll get you and your friend onto our ship. Cortana's form suddenly glows a bright red and she stumbles to the ground clutching her head as if in pain. Anakin gasps as she starts to shout. Bad. Get us out of here. Now. There's something else on this ship. It was waiting for us. Cortana, what's wrong? Cortana's image flickers more violently. No time. I'm failing. Rampant. There's There's There's something else here. You must leave leave now. Another life form detected. Another life form detected. Anakin's comm link roars to life as troopers from another squad contact him. General, something attacked us. It's a pod-like thing. It latched onto one of the troopers and it Blaster fire rings out and the channel goes dead. She releases the tubes holding Master Chief's cryo chamber in place. Anakin orders the clones to take it back to their ship as he rushes off to the lower levels where the rest of his men are investigating. Although Cortana insists on getting out of there, Anakin ignores her and an ear-splitting shriek echoes across the facility. In the lower levels, a figure limps out from the shadows. At first, Anakin thinks it's one of his men, but as it steps into the light, he sees the clone is now mutated and deformed. One hand is enlarged and twisting into a pincer while his head has been pushed back against his spine. In its place, a pod has burrowed itself into his chest cavity. The trooper shrieks and rushes at Anakin, its pincer slashing at him. He reels back from the attack and slashes his lightsaber across the clone's arm, slicing it off at the shoulder. But the flood form moves with unnatural speed and grabs Anakin by the throat with his remaining hand. Anakin reverses his grip and drives his lightsaber into the flood form's chest, driving it to the ground as the infector bursts. The Jedi falls to the ground but does not have a chance to rest for long as more combat forms appear. Cortana's voice sounds from the intercom. Run. The Jedi turns his heels and rushes back the way he came as the infected clones give chase. He stops only to pull Cortana's data chip from the hollow tank before making his way back onto their shuttle. He's the last one on board and the ship takes off. Anakin orders the resolute to fire upon the forward unto dawn. The turbo lasers rip through the already ruined ships hall sending bursts of flame blossoming as the ship breaks apart. But from the explosion they glimpse something streaking through the air. A tiny escape pod that flies straight to the planet below. Anakin places on the ships console. Cortana, what was that? The flood. Anakin strides onto the bridge of the resolute taking both Cortana and the cryo tube with them as they begin working on unfreezing Master Chief. Asoka is waiting for her master and behind her is a hologram of the Jedi Council and the Chancellor. Cortana, tell them what you told me. What are we dealing with? The flood. A parasite that infects and consumes all organic life it comes into contact with. If that pod reaches the planet's surface it will only be a matter of time before the entire planet is overrun. Then we must deploy a response force immediately to contain this threat. This isn't just another enemy. The flood spreads like a virus. It assimilates every being it infects and it won't stop until everything is consumed. A troubling story certainly. But you expect us to believe that one pod is capable of such devastation? Believe it or not, I've seen entire planets consumed within days. The flood grows exponentially. Even one spore can destroy a species. You need to bombard that area where the pod landed and level everything within a 100 mile radius. Cortana, there are people there. Towns, cities. We'll send a task force down. We'll contain it. Containment won't work. The flood is unlike anything you faced before. It can't be contained. If it gets a foothold on the surface, it's already too late. Not that you don't way this is. Go to the planet's surface you must, Skywalker. Cortana's form flickers violently. You don't understand what you're dealing with. We did not raise entire planets based on fear alone. If this flood is as dangerous as you claim, we will deal with it as we have with countless threats before. Perhaps you and your companions expertise will be useful. Cortana takes a deep breath and begins defrosting Master Chief. Chief, wake up. I need you. The Republic shuttle touches down on the planet's surface as Anakin, Ahsoka, Master Chief, and the clones rush out. They find a small village where the escape pod had landed and hurry to investigate. The streets are deserted, buildings abandoned, leaving the ground strewn with overturned carts and broken tools littering the road. The wind picks up carrying with it a faint, putrid smell. Ahsoka covers her nose. Oh, what was that? Before Anakin can answer, there's movement in the distance. Something stirs in the shadows. A figure stumbles out from an alley. At first, it looks like a townsperson, but as it emerges into the light, the sight sends a chill down Anakin's spine. The figure's body is twisted and bloated. Its skin is sickly green with strange tendrils snaking out from its flesh. Its face is contorted in a grotesque snarl, eyes lifeless, yet filled with hunger. Contact. The creature lets out an ear-splitting screech, charging at them with unnatural speed. Master Chief fires a single shot from his blaster, and it sends it tumbling to the ground. But blaster fire erupts from the buildings and streets, splashing against his shield while Ahsoka and Anakin protect the clones. More creatures pour out from surrounding buildings, infected townspeople, their bodies twisted beyond recognition, and now part of the flood. The Republic troops form a defensive circle, managing to cut down dozens of these creatures with their lightsabers or blasters, but their numbers seem endless. It isn't just the larger combat forms that attack them, too. More of those tiny pod-like creatures emerge, and bulbous infected forms shamble forward. As the clones blast one of the massive carrier forms, it bursts into an explosion of flesh and pus, sending infection forms everywhere. One of the clone troopers stumbles as a spore latches onto him. Anakin watches in horror as the trooper's body convulses, the virus spreading rapidly through his veins. His scream is cut short as his form mutates, his armor cracking open as the flood takes over. The infected trooper rises, now one of them, and lunges at his former comrades. Anakin's heart pounds in his chest. He slices through the infected clone. "General, we can't hold them off. We need to retreat." "Everyone fall back, and someone call in a bomber." Master Chief steps forward and fires his rifle at full auto, bashing anything that gets in his way. Ahsoka and Anakin watch his flanks, their lightsabers flashing and cutting through the infected like paper. This buys time for everyone to escape, just as a pair of Y-wings appear, dropping their payload. The town disappears in a blinding explosion. The once peaceful streets obliterated by fire and debris. The bombardment continues, raining destruction down on what remains of the settlement. As the dust settles, a smoldering crater is all that remains of the town. Ahsoka touches Anakin's arm gently. He doesn't respond. The faces of the infected, their bodies twisting, replay in his mind. He can still hear their screams. It's not over. Unfortunately, he is right. As soon after, they receive reports of infections across the planet. Similar attempts at containment fail as they are unable to beat back the flood. Reluctantly, Anakin agrees to launch more bombing campaigns, leveling entire cities to prevent the flood from spreading while they evacuate whoever they can. Soon, a planetary quarantine is established with Y-wings bombing infected hot spots and troopers dealing with the survivors. Neighboring planets are also ordered to go under quarantine, shutting down ports and any methods on or off the planet to prevent the flood from spreading. But despite these efforts, the infection does escape. As with each infection, the flood learns their intelligence, allowing them to repair and use starships to get off world. As news gets out, the public is in an uproar at this threat, which soon begins to overshadow even the Clone Wars as entire systems are under threat as the flood grows their influence. To their surprise, the CIS eventually stumbles across the flood to engage them and prove quite effective. Because they primarily use droids, they are less susceptible to infection. More importantly, they are far more willing to take extreme measures like bombardments to contain the infection. This allows them to contain and even beat back the flood. Seeing their success, Count Dooku offers terms to the Republic. An alliance to stop the flood if the Republic gives in to CIS demands. Palpatine and the Senate initially reject this offer, accusing the separatists of using the situation to their advantage. But with entire worlds falling to the flood, the public is in an uproar as they demand stronger action to control the infection. Reluctantly, the Republic agrees to these terms and they sign a treaty granting the CIS their independence after the flood is destroyed. With this deal, they combine their forces and begin waging a counterattack. Here, the separatists reveal one of their most potent weapons, the defoliator shell. These weapons are capable of destroying all organic life, including the flood, while leaving machines unharmed. Republic troops quickly adopt this weapon, and it helps them turn the tide. Although they still have mixed opinions on using weapons like this on battleground worlds, they are more than happy to unleash it on planets that have already fallen to the flood. The defoliator cannon proves to be devastating, pushing back the flood on multiple fronts, allowing them to regain the initiative in the war, adopting versions for starships and bombers. Even Cortana has to admit the strategy is effective. It can clear large swaths of territory, allowing ground troops to advance. With this success, Cortana identifies one world that might host a flood hive, where they are building a gravemind. After dropping the defoliator shells, the Republican and CIS troops prepare for a ground invasion. Republic gunships land alongside separatist landing craft, deploying clone troopers and droids. This world, its surface barren and charred after the bombardment, making it impossible to tell if there truly was a flood hive. Anakin, Ahsoka, and Master Chief stand near their shuttle, making last-minute checks on their equipment. Grievous looms nearby, his mechanical hands gripping his signature lightsabers, the metallic fingers flexing. Cortana's hologram flickers on the console beside them, her form glitching more than usual. She appears, fades, then reappears. Her once calm demeanor now strained. Are you sure this is the place? It doesn't look like there's much of anything here. The flood must have retreated under the ground after the initial bombardment. But our my intelligence has detected a large concentration on this planet. Is she all right? She's been glitching more than usual. Master Chief's gaze shifts to the flickering hologram. His helmet conceals his emotions. He hesitates, but Cortana gives him a nod. No, sir. She's rampant. AIs like her only last so long before their code degrades. Cortana's reached the end of her lifespan. Isn't there something you can do? If she's like this, couldn't it compromise the mission? I am not putting my life in the hands of this glorified droid. I hate to admit it, but if she glitches while we're in the middle of a fight, she'll be fine. I promised I'd find a way to help her. But right now, we need to focus on the mission. Anakin and Ahsoka nod, trusting the Spartan's judgment. The flood is a nuisance, but they're no match for us. Let us exterminate this hive and move on. As the flood forms emerge from a series of caves, the defoliator cannons open fire. Shells streak across the sky, sending energy waves rippling across the landscape, vaporizing all organic life in their path. The flood forms on the surface are reduced to charred remnants, their grotesque bodies dissolving in bursts of fire. Anakin, Ahsoka, Master Chief, and Grievous lead the charge as Republic and CIS forces charge through the charred surface, blasters firing and cutting through survivors. There are a few flood forms trying to organize a counterattack, but this time it's the clones and droids who have a numerical advantage. They're clearing sectors faster than expected. Anakin nods, leading the charge as he cuts down stray infected forms. Beside him is Grievous, who laughs maniacally as he tears combat forms apart with his bare hands. Ahsoka follows closely and deals with stragglers alongside Master Chief. Cortana directs them towards a large structure up ahead as the Flood seems to be retreating to that area. But suddenly, the ground begins to shake sending clones and droids falling from their feet. Cracks start to form on the dirt causing Ahsoka to leap back. A few droids fall inside. They're coming from underground. The ground erupts in multiple places as swarms of Flood burst from hidden tunnels. They're even supported by massive tentacles that drag combatants underground. These aren't just stragglers as they move in coordinated attacks which lash out at the broken lines of droids and clones. Grievous snarls and leaps to the front lightsabers flashing at blinding speed as he cuts a hole through the advancing combat forms. But even with him, the droids and clones struggle to rally. Anakin and Ahsoka join in moments later trying to stabilize the ground while Master Chief opens fire cutting down unsuspecting Flood forms. But their numbers are overwhelming and the army begins to break. Grievous in a frenzy charges forward his lightsabers spinning as he cuts through wave after wave of Flood. But even his mechanical prowess is no match for the numbers pouring from the tunnels. A hulking tank forms and though he slashes it down, another takes its place latching onto him. From above, they shift into ranged form and pour fire down at Grievous pinning him in place as the Flood forms bury him alive. As the forces retreat, the earth itself seems to crack open. From the depths, the Grave Mind emerges. A grotesque mass of tendrils and biomass as its tentacles toss aside enemy soldiers. One of them grabs Master Chief by the waist and pulls him forward towards its maw. Anakin rushes forward lightsaber blazing but before he can strike, another tendril wraps around Cortana's data chip tearing it from Master Chief's armor. I have what I need. Your AR will join us. Your resistance is futile. Anakin leaps onto the Gravemind's tendril, slashing it, sending Master Chief to the ground. Ahsoka helps him back to the ships where the survivors retreat, gathering up their forces and flying off. The defeat here is a massive blow to the Republic and CIS. As not only do they lose large numbers of soldiers, but also Grievous and Cortana. While Palpatine and the joint command are initially not bothered by the loss of Cortana and don't think much on it, that is until the droids begin to malfunction all across the fleet. Battle droids and CIS ships suffer from sudden power surges, powering down and then reactivating. Slowly, the ships turn to their Republic counterparts and open fire. The Resolute rocks from the explosion as Anakin demands a status report from the new CIS commander. A tactical droid appears on the holonet with a flood biomass sticking out from its body. I am a monument to all your sins. They've taken control of the droids. Get us out of here. The Republic forces quickly begin to withdraw as their former allies bear down on them, questions running through their minds. Even Master Chief doesn't have answers to what happened. All he knows is that the Gravemind can infect and influence machines as he tried to do with Cortana before, but now that she is rampant, she must have been susceptible to the Gravemind's power. While Anakin and his troops managed to escape, reports appear from all across the Republic space of droids turning against their allies. The Republic fleet is in disarray, suffering heavy losses and forced to abandon defensive positions. This leaves large swaths of the galaxy vulnerable to flood infection. The Republic is left with no choice but to pull back from the outer rim, evacuating whoever they can, and escaping to more defensible positions. Entire systems are lost, along with most of the CIS army. Within weeks of this attack, the flood has managed to spread across countless systems, infecting untold billions of people, and can now threaten the entire galaxy. Although the Republic tries to establish a defensive line, they're in a precarious position, outnumbered and outmatched. As the Republic forces prepare for an oncoming flood offensive, they receive reports from the hangar that one of the CIS supply ships managed to escape destruction and has landed. Count Dooku is among the survivors. The count strides into the meeting room, his face calm despite the horror he's faced. There is even a flicker of excitement in his eyes. I trust our defenses are holding, for now. But you didn't come all this way to ask about our defenses. Indeed not. I have come to offer a solution, a way to end this infestation before it spreads beyond even our reach. Then what's in it for you? Survival. Even I can see that if the flood wins, there will be nothing left for either of us. The survival of this galaxy transcends our petty conflict. What I bring you now is a weapon, a final option. I had sacrificed what few forces I had left to secure these weapons. Dooku gestures, and a hologram flickers to life in the center of the command table. It displays a cylindrical bomb that pulses with blue light. I think you are all familiar with these weapons after your experience in Dr. Vindi's lab. You can't be serious. The Blue Shadow virus? It's lethal to everyone, and could destroy an entire system including the flood. We can target infected systems, sterilize the biomass, and halt their advance. The rest of the officers are horrified staring at these bombs and wondering how things have gotten to this. Were these weapons truly their only option left? Dooku senses their uncertainty and shakes his head. Yes, it is a cruel option but cruelty is the price of survival. Anakin stares at the hologram unleashing a bioweapon that could wipe out entire populations. It's a betrayal of everything the Jedi stand for. There's one problem. The virus will destroy the flood but it won't affect the infected droids. They will continue to fight and advance spreading the infection. It seems the flood has gained control of our droid forces through rather familiar source. Cortana has overridden the CIS command system and is using the droids to continue spreading the infection. Anakin's jaw tightens as his worst fears are confirmed. He glances over to Master Chief and even with his armor he senses the Spartan's anxiousness. Destroying the gravemind is no longer enough. Cortana must be eliminated as well or she will continue to command the infected droids. I'll do it. If anyone is going to handle Cortana, it will be me. I can go while you begin deploying the bombs. This should give us a chance to slip through. This is a dangerous plan. Even if we succeed, there'll be nothing left of those worlds. Better those worlds than the entire galaxy. Anakin bites his lip as the callousness of those words hits hard but they're also true as it may be their only chance to stop the flood. All right. Let's do it. Dooku takes charge of the bombing campaign, attacking over a dozen systems simultaneously. These coordinated attacks devastate the Flood presence in the systems, which quickly grow ill and pass away. This leaves them vulnerable to follow-up attacks that put the Flood on the back foot. While this should be a crippling blow, the infected droids begin the counterattack and engage the clone forces. The battles rage as they engage in the desperate offensive, and for the first time, the Flood stalls momentarily as they rush infected droids to deal with these defenses. On their new hive world, a small shuttle lands on the surface undetected with many defenders rushed to other systems. From the ship, Anakin, Ahsoka, and Master Chief step out. Moving cautiously, but quickly, as they know the success is only short-lived. As they reach the Flood capital, they see a massive hive with twisting spires made from organic metal fused with machinery. It stands out amidst the wasteland while the air is thick with Flood spores. Even with their protective gear, they are cautious. Master Chief tightens his grip on his blaster as he advances the group toward the hive entrance. The nest is a scene from a nightmare with walls lined with pulsating organic masses, but these masses are moving as the grotesque shapes twitch and writhe, rising to their feet and moving towards them. A piercing screech fills the air, and a swarm of Flood combat forms rush from the shadows, lunging at the trio. Behind them, infected droids advance slowly, pouring blaster fire while the newly created pure forms stalk from the tanks, lunging from walls or barrels towards them. Anakin and Ahsoka stand back to back, their lightsabers flashing as they cut through the advancing horde, staying at a narrow choke point. Master Chief fires with cold efficiency, his blaster mowing down the charging flood as he stays close behind. While the infected forms and droids fall quickly, the hulking pure forms join the fight. They barrel through their positions and force them to scatter. One of them raises its bony hand and tries to bring it down. But Ahsoka holds it in place with the force while Master Chief sticks a grenade into the creature's fleshy body. Anakin then throws it back towards the group just as it detonates, clearing the path. With their way momentarily clear, the small group heads in deeper. Unfortunately, that is far from the last wave. Everywhere they go, they find pockets of flood resistance rushing to meet them. The battle drags on for hours as the trio fights for every foot they gain, being attacked from all directions by every horror imaginable. Even with their combined strength, the group starts to slow down as fatigue sets in. Doubt begins to cross Ahsoka and Anakin's mind despite their encouragement as they wonder whether they will be able to make it. Master Chief, though, remains relentless with each battle seeming to spur him further. Every droid he finds or infected fighter is a symbol of Cortana's handiwork and makes his mission more apparent. After what feels like an eternity of fighting, they reach the heart of the hive. The machines and consoles they've captured are all gathered here, infused with the flood biomass. At the center of it, Cortana stands looking over the consoles and devices. Her once clear form distorts and flickers while her body seems to short circuit every second. But there she stands, her eyes glowing a sickly green, directing the infected droids and moving them where they need to be. She doesn't register their presence as the trio eliminates the guards. Cortana. The AI doesn't seem to notice as her voice speaks brokenly, as if three versions of her are speaking at once. Cortana. Finally, the AI turns to him. Her sickly green eyes staring blankly. But then she seems to stabilize for a moment as she tries to make sense of what's happening. Who's there? Cortana. It's me. I'm here. The words seem to break the spell as her form fully materializes. The green glow around her vanishes and is replaced by her original appearance. But then she screams and falls to her knees clutching her temples. I I can't. The Gravemind. It's in my head, Chief. It's using me to control everything. Cortana. You have to fight it. We need you. I need you. John. I'm sorry. I'm infected. A logic plague. I can't resist. You have to end this. I can't control it much longer. You need to destroy me. Overload my core. It's the only way to stop the droids and the flood. No. I can save you. We can fix this. Didn't I always say don't make a girl a promise if you know you can't keep it. Master Chief squares his shoulders and prepares to protest. He hadn't come this far just to give up. But before he can open his mouth, the ground beneath them trembles sending debris raining down on them. The entire citadel shakes and a massive tentacle bursts from the ground. Anakin and Ahsoka ignite their lightsabers and leap aside just as they fall on them. You cannot save her. She is mine. And sooner you will join her. Two corpses in one grave. More tentacles shoot out, emerging around the platform, lashing out at the Chief, who picks up his blaster and fires at them, while Ahsoka and Anakin cut them down. From the opening in the ground, a cloud of infection forms come flying out, their tendrils pointed at them. Combining their powers, Ahsoka and Anakin unleash a Force shockwave that destroys the nearest ones and scatters the rest. But they immediately begin swarming around them. Master Chief sees them struggling and moves to help, blasting a few of them, but is interrupted by Cortana's screams. She clutches her head as it spins around, fighting for control against the Gravemind. What do you need me to do? Cortana looks at him, her form rallying once again as she quickly gives him the instructions to overload the controls. The ground shakes as tentacles lash out around him, trying to crush the Spartan. But Anakin moves at lightning speed, slicing it apart. Master Chief hits the final button and watches his core temperatures begin to rise. Anakin, Ahsoka, you best get out of here now before this place blows up. And what about you? In response, he fires his blaster at an oncoming tentacle. Someone has to keep this thing occupied. It's been an honor, Master Chief. Likewise. And General Skywalker, promise me you'll finish this fight. Don't worry about the galaxy. It's in good hands. The two break off and make their way towards the exit, just as a horde of pure forms emerge from the ground. Master Chief aims and begins to open fire, holding his position on the platform as they swarm all around him. As the core reaches critical levels, Master Chief smiles under his helmet and looks at Cortana. For a moment, she's back to her old self. John. Thank you. The Citadel collapses in on itself. A massive explosion ripping through the hive, causing the flood biomass to burst, sending shockwaves that through the ground. From the air, Anakin and Ahsoka watch the explosion in their shuttle. Already, they are hearing reports of infected droids starting to break and shut down, while the remaining flood forms are getting back to their feral stage, leaving them easier prey for the Republic forces. The flood is far from defeated, as there are still countless infected to deal with, but without clear leadership, they at least have a chance at clearing up the mess. As they stare at the crater, the two bow their heads in respect for the fallen Spartan. Anakin then approaches the cockpit and contacts Republic command. This is General Skywalker.
