What if Tywin Lannister was reborn with all his memories? Let's explore the depths of it in the video. Tywin squeezes his wife's hand as he feels the strength leaving her body for the last time. Behind him, he can hear the crying of its newborn son, the little imp that ripped itself from his wife's body. He chooses to ignore it. The thing can wait. Instead, he leans over to Joanna, brushing her hair from her face, planting a kiss on her forehead. Joanna manages a weak smile, looking at her husband and seeing the grief all over his face. When their eyes meet, the pain disappeared only for a moment. Afterward, Taiwan takes a deep breath and composes himself. He knows the maesters and midwives are in the room waiting for instruction. None of them says anything, leaving the Lord of Castly Rock with his thoughts. Leave us. The others waste no time in leaving, hurrying out the door and taking the newborn with them. Once they are gone, he sigh and walks over to his wife, pushing his hand over her eyes to close them as he lets his shoulders slump. And only then does he allow himself to be afraid. He had been expecting this day for quite some time now. Although it pained him, he'd seen it in his dreams. Since he was a boy, Tywin has found himself plagued with dreams, or visions he supposed of the future. He watched as events unfolded before his eyes. He saw his rise to prominence as Aries hand and later the bitter feud that came about from his madness. He saw himself marrying Joanna and having his twins. Those had been one of his best visions. And then he saw this event, the monster that would emerge from her last, a dwarf son and an embarrassment to his house. And yet, it would be him who brings the house down when this imp Tyrion kills him in the privy. A part of him wants to strangle the boy now and put an end to it, but the old lion restrains himself, remembering the old saying about how no man is half as cursed as a kitten slayer. While not a superstitious man, he understands the issues that this might cause. But Tyrion is the least of his worries, as there is another matter he must address. For that night, Tywin remains by Joanna's side, resting on a nearby chair. But the next day, once news has been broken to the rest of his family. He calls for his son and daughter. Jaime and Cersei both arrive, their eyes wide and their faces confused. It is a mixture of grief and shock. While a part of him sympathizes with them, another knows what they have been up to and decides to confront them now. >> Sit down, both of you. >> When they place themselves before him, he steeples his hands together. Any hint of weakness and vulnerability he had the night before is gone, replaced with only cold staring as he regards his two children, who now shift around nervously in their seats. >> I know what you two have been doing. >> The statement is like a pot of wildfire being dropped into their chairs as the two children stare at one another, their eyes wide and confused. A million questions are running through their mind. What does he know? How does he know? What could it mean? And why is he telling them now? But before they could voice any of them, Tywin raised his hand. >> I do not care why you did it, where, or how often. I only care what will happen now, and that is that this madness will stop. You understand how foolish you two were conducting yourselves like this. >> Father, please. You can't possibly demand this of us. We've done nothing wrong. >> Are you so truly deluded that you believe that? You've disgraced this family and I will hear no more of it. >> Mother told you about it. She is lying about what happened. She's trying to turn you against us. >> Enough. I will hear no more talk of your mother. Have some shame, Cersei. >> Father, please. I beg you to reconsider. I love her. >> I will do no such thing. And if you two had half the witscod gave a goat, you would be silent before I reconsider even keeping you in castly rock. >> His tone brokers no argument and Tywin dismisses them both. However, he soon begins making changes around the castle. They are kept as far apart from each other as possible. Their chambers are moved to opposite ends of the castle and servants are ordered to watch them. They are not even allowed to dine in the same room together. As far as Tywin is concerned, they should not even consider each other family anymore. simple strangers. Both children are furious and grow resentful of him. Tywin does not care. So long as neither defies him, he considers his task complete. Yet he pays little attention to them, focusing his energy on his visions. While he's made changes, he knows other events are coming to pass, and he tries to prepare himself as best he can. The Lord of Castle Rock spends entire days locked in his chamber, studying these events and considering the possibilities. He does not pay his children any heed. Cersei and Jaime barely see him and talk to him even less. Tyrion had hardly seen him at all, raised by the servants and maesters of the castle. When he isn't dealing with that, he is swallowing the insults of Aries, who grows increasingly unhinged. A big part of that is his enemies at court, turning them against him. Tywin soon leaves the Mad King services entirely as he further devolves into insanity. Soon enough, this madness is put on full display across the Seven Kingdoms when Aries burns Rickard and Brandon Stark. after they confront the royal family regarding Rhaegar's kidnapping of Lyanna. This time there is no ignoring it and the realm rises in rebellion. While some houses are quick to declare for one side or the other, Tywin maintains his veneer of neutrality. However, he knows which way the wind is blowing and sends a force of men numbering 3,000 to support the rebels. These men are placed under the command of Lord Prester and informed that they must maintain discretion. They do not fly the Lannister colors and are dispersed across the Riverland army. It is a small enough force to escape the mad king's notice, but large enough that the rebels understand Tywin's contribution. He also secretly sends word to John Aaron, promising further aid later in the war. While small, this army acquits itself well as Lord Prester proves to be an able commander. He leads the Westerman to several notable victories alongside the rebels, even aiding Robert in the Trident, where he crushes the Targaryen host under the command of Rhaegar. Once that army is defeated, Tywin at last fully commits to the war. Some 15,000 men are mobilized and marched to King's Landing. There they inform the mad king that they have come to offer their aid against the rebels. Yet once the gates are opened, Tywin has his men sack the entire city. His men surge through the streets, capturing and killing any royalists they come across while the stores and markets are looted. As the survivors retreat into the Red Keep, Tywin has his men follow them and provides clear instructions. >> We must defeat the Targaryen line here and now. I want Aries dead, but Ellie Martell and her children must be taken alive. If there is so much as a scratch on, it shall be your hides that I display on the walls. Understand? Sir Emmery Larch nods, but Sir Gregor grunts and appears hesitant. However, Tywin continues to level a stern look at him. Behind him, close to a 100 men at arms stand, ready to enforce Tywin's words if necessary. However, that is not necessary as the mountain inclines his head and follows after. Along with a handful of their most trusted men, the two knights storm the royal chambers of the Red Keep. They cut down the few remaining guards there and surround Ellia Martell. She screams and kicks, but is restrained as her children are taken into Tywin's custody. After that, the gates are opened and the Lannister men rush inside. They search the keep, eager to finish off Aries. But they find the job done for them. Instead, the mad king is dead by Jaime<unk>s hand. As Tywin stares at the bloodied corpse of the man he once called his king and friend, he gives his son an approving nod. It is perhaps the first one Jaime has received in years. After that, the rebels begin to trickle into the capital. Their progress is slowed by the recent battle which has left many wounded, including Robert himself. Yet, when Ned Stark arrives, he hears of how the royal family has been taken prisoner. While he cannot say he approves of Tywin's treachery, he also understands the necessity and simply ensures the royal family is treated well. Robert follows and looks around the room. With the last of the Targaryenss hiding on Dragonstoneone, the Iron Throne is effectively vacant and Robert is declared king due to his blood ties to the Targaryenss as well as his victory in the Trident. But as he eases himself onto the Iron Throne and surveys his new kingdom, Pycel clears his throat. What of the royal family? They remain prisoner under House Lannister. >> Prisoners, you've been busy, Lord Tywin. What do you intend to do with them? I intend for Lady Elliot to be returned to Dawn with your approval, of course. As for the children, I admit that is a complicated matter. To leave them alive poses a great threat to your rule. I hope you are not suggesting executing these children, Lord Tarwin. One of them is merely a suckling babe. If we begin murdering them for crimes they did not commit, then what separates us from the mad king? >> I am suggesting nothing. I am simply pointing out the risk. As I said, I defer judgment to our new king. >> Tywin allows himself a small smile. It had been one of the moments he had thought long and hard on. It puts the ball firmly in Robert's court, absolving him of any blame for what should happen next. Robert looks at the screaming infant and little Reerys, who is on the verge of tears. She trembles as the men hold her back. He swallows and shakes his head, just as Tywin had predicted. The king fancies himself a hero, and heroes do not murder children. >> Lord Tywin, is there something you can do about this? Of course, your grace. I will keep them under watch in Castle Iraq, if that pleases you. There they shall be kept safe until such a time when they can come of age and publicly declare their refusal to claim the Iron Throne. Indeed, so they shall be allowed to remain nobility, perhaps if a suitable marriage pact could be made. But yes, I will ensure that that time in my hole is comfortable. It is far from a perfect solution, but it is a solution all of them can accept. Robert consents to this pact, and even Ned cannot protest. At the end of the day, Tywin had declared for them and given them tangible support during the rebellion. His capture of King's Landing, while far from clean, helped end the war in a stroke. Those are things that Ned cannot deny. Still, that is far from the end of negotiations. As king, Robert must now have a queen, and Tywin suggests Cersei. John Aaron also supports them, reminding them that they will need Lannister support to rebuild the seven kingdoms. And as he holds the Targaryen children, he has considerable bargaining power. The match is agreed to, and they plan to get married, though neither Cersei nor Robert seems pleased with it. Yet that is still not the end. As while Tywin might be rewarded, others must be punished. In particular, Ned insists that Jaime cannot be allowed to remain in the king's guard after disgracing himself. Sir Barristan agrees and vows not to serve a man who killed his king. To their surprise, rather than protesting, Tywin agrees and allows them to strip his son of his white cloak. While Ned wishes for him to be sent to the wall, Robert is satisfied with letting him have the dishonor of being the first man to be removed from the king's guard. While upset externally, inwardly, Tywin is celebrating. It is exactly what he had hoped for as this would guarantee him an heir and most importantly ensure that he would not be anywhere near Cersei. But there is still the matter of Dragonstone. Without a fleet to attack them, the last Targaryen stronghold can hold out indefinitely. Though Stannis is now building his fleet to lay siege to the castle, that process can take several weeks. Tywin has another plan. With Ellie as his hostage, he sends a letter to the Dornish, offering them the chance to ransom her. Rather than demanding money, he instead seeks their support. He says they must recognize Robert's rule and provide them with their ships. While they do not have a strong naval presence, they do have corsairs and pirate ships that can be used to help storm the castle. The Martell are not pleased with being extorted. Yet, it is fully expected of Tywin. Yet, while they voice their displeasure, there is no hatred in it either, as they know Tywin went out of his way to keep Ellia and her children safe, even though there was little reason to. But they do not do things Tywin's way. Instead, they send out their fleet of about 20 smaller ships. Although they are badly outnumbered, the royal fleet does not stop them. They have known the Dornish men as staunch allies of the Targaryenss and fully believe their stories that they are there to reinforce them. A contingent of spearmen marches into the castle and greets them with open arms. But among them is a prisoner hand selected by Prince Dorne Martell. This man bears with him a vial of poison that he slips into their food. Within days, Viserius falls ill and dies. And another droplet is slipped into Daenerys's mouth as she sleeps. And with them, the last holdouts are snuffed out. Sir William soon follows his throat and wrists while he sleeps. When the rest of the garrison hears of this, the Dornish captain issues an official statement that Sir Willm had poisoned them to prevent them from being captured. The Dragonstone garrison is all too ready to believe this, as most of them see little reason to continue fighting. They simply accept the pardon that Tywin provides them and Dragonstone is vacated by these loyalists without a drop of blood being spilled on the rebel side. While Tywin's contribution during the war was minimal, his aid as a negotiator was instrumental. Even Ned Stark cannot deny that, and John Aaron praises him for it. When the Western return home, Tywin is hailed as a hero and remains welcome in the court. The next few months prove mostly quiet as his armies return home and the realm begins to rebuild. While Robert secures his position on the Iron Throne, Tywin focuses his attention back on the Westerlands as Jaime is now back with him and he begins to train him in the arts of ruling. Every day he has his son sit with him and catches him up on lessons that he's missed. While the King Slayer remains an unmatched fighter, he now must learn about ruling, history, negotiation, and diplomacy. Jaime takes little enjoyment in these lessons. He would rather be serving as a knight in the King's Guard, but he dares not voice these concerns to Tywin, who would rebuke them regardless. But all things considered, everything is going quite well for Tywin. He begins to relax and consider that for the first time, he thinks that he has finally prevented the visions he has feared. The sight of his grandchildren only confirm this. Just 2 years after their marriage, their first child is born. It is a powerfully lunged boy named Orund after his great-grandfather. When he is born, Tywin personally inspects the boy and is relieved when he sees cold black hair. Soon after, he's followed by another boy named Tybalt and then Oliver a year later. Lastly is a girl named Joanna. He observes the marriage between Cersei and Robert, seeing how loveless it is. Quite frankly, it was a miracle they even had a child, much less four. Yet, Tywin had continued to put pressure on her to ensure the family line would continue. As the children grow, they spend half the year in King's Landing and the other half in Castle Rock with their grandfather and uncles. There, Tywin personally takes an interest in them, helping them understand their role as rulers of the seven kingdoms from an early age. Tywin has seen how the destructive tendencies of his daughter doomed her own children. He will be sure that this never happens with these three. Every time he hears them uttering something Cersei says, he is quick to correct them, reminding them that not everything their mother says is fact. He even goes as far as to have them analyze everything she says and see what might be wrong with it. As they grow up, they spend time with the Targaryen children who remain as hostages within Castle Iraq. However, the Targaryen dynasty slowly fades away without a clear successor. This leaves people more relaxed in the treatment of the children. Tywin even strikes a deal with the Martell to allow them to send the children back to Dorne. They will both be allowed to spend 6 months in Dorne each year, but they may never go back together to ensure Dornish's good behavior. Ia loves her children fiercely, but true to Tywin's words, they are given a comfortable life in the castle rock, everything is provided for them, and they receive the same tutors and maesters as his own grandchildren. The two sets of children grow close enough that they begin to see each other as cousins rather than enemies. Soon enough, the halls of Castley Rock become loud with laughter and shouts as the children grow up. Orman circles his opponent, a practice sword held lightly in his hand. He's quicker than most boys his age, darting forward with a faint before skipping back out of reach. Jaime watching from the shade of a column gives a grunt of approval. He's light on his feet. That's good, but your swings too high. Try again. Oliver doesn't wait for his turn. He's already sparring with a grown guard twice his size, meeting each blow with raw strength that belies his ears. And with every strike, his broads shoulders and square jaw make him look more like Robert. From a nearby balcony, Tywin watches both boys, his hands folded behind his back. To him, they are two sides of the same coin. Orund with his quick mind and quicker blade. Oliver with his unshakable confidence and brute force. Both would be useful if properly honed. And so far, both have done well under their lessons. Orund is not the brightest of them, but he is clever enough and has Robert's charm. That alone makes it easy for him to win allies. Meanwhile, Oliver is almost as big as him and may surpass him in the coming years. Many expect that he shall be the one to inherit Robert's hammer. Down below in the solar, Joanna sits at a long oak table with a quill in hand, reciting the lineages of the great houses without glancing at her parchment. Her dark hair catches the sunlight as she looks up to her grandfather with a proud smile. >> Very good. But you missed House Har's current lord. Think. >> Rodri Har called Rodrik the reader by most. He rules over the 10 towers and by extension all the branches of the Holla. Didn't he oppose the Greyjoy rebellion? >> Indeed. I'm surprised you know that. I don't remember teaching you that. Though he might not move the Iron Islands, he is a man to watch out for. Never forget figures like that. In politics, the smallest mistake can be the one that costs you. >> Uncle Tyrion taught me that. He told me about how not all the Ironborn supported this war. Others had different ideas to gain independence. And some didn't want it at all. >> You'll remember faster if you tie it to something you care about. For example, House Harlow commands the ship Sea Song. You like songs, don't you? Joanna's face lights up and she bows her head before Tywin dismisses her. Tyrion, of all his children, he was the one Tywin had the lowest expectations for. He hoped to control Cersei and Jaime. But Tyrion, the best he hoped for was to find him some wife to pack him off to. I am capable of instructing my grandchildren. And yet, when I explained the Reach's administration as a kitchen recipe, Orman remembered them perfectly. Or when I described Robert's diplomatic relationship to Oliver using the Battle of Summerhal, he understood that children don't learn by fear, father. They learn by interest. Tywin doesn't reply, but neither does he dismiss him. In truth, he notices the difference. Tyrion's unorthodox explanations. The children absorb their history, sums, and statecraft more easily. Without the sullen defiance he'd expect, not like Cersei or Jaime. As much as he hates it, Tyrion has become the children's most gifted tutor. Whether it's composing his lectures through songs or entertaining them during lectures by using his tumbling skills, the children adore him. By evening, the family gathers in the hall for supper. Orman entertains the table with a story of his latest hunting misadventure. Oliver boasts about a tilt he nearly won against another squire. Joanna asks pointed questions about the recent developments in the Stepstones. Meanwhile, Aegon and Reys sit beside them. Aegon egging Oliver to challenge him to a melee and Reys showing Orman the bow she was gifted from the Red Viper. Tywin listens, silent, but attentive. These are not Cersei's children. Not in the way Joffrey was. These are his, sharpened, disciplined, and loyal. And for the first time in years, he allows himself a flicker of satisfaction. Even if he admits privately, some of that is thanks to Tyrion. As laughter continues to ring out across the dining hall, it oddly doesn't upset Tywin. Looking over at his youngest guests, the old lion can't help but feel a grandfatherly pride upon watching them. They will all grow to be fine young men and women. He that he is certain of. Yet his ambitions are not the only thing he sees in them. Lur Tywin sees the way they smile, the way their minds work, and the pride in which they carry themselves. all eager to prove themselves to him. While he never says it out loud, he is proud. The only exception to this is Tybalt, who is not present. While all of them spend half a year in Castly Rock and even look forward to it, the second board prefers to spend as little time there as possible, preferring the company of Cersei and the king. He is the one Tywin worries about the most. He looks the part, tall, graceful, and good with a lance. Yet he is also vain and wears the lion crest upon his chest with a sullen entitlement, not something which he wishes to raise up. He is charming, but when it comes to military matters, he is a genius due to his close proximity to Robert. By 8, he has battles explained to him in detail. By 10, he has memorized the movements of Robert's army during the rebellion. And by 16, he is taking strategy with the best military minds in the kingdom. when he is with Tywin, that is perhaps the only thing the two can talk about. More importantly, Tywin has some suspicions about the boy's origin. He was born 10 months after Orand, possible, to be sure. Yet, that seems rather suspicious. He very much doubted whether his daughter would be rushing back to Robert's bed. This leaves Tywin to grapple with the idea that this boy is not his at all. Yet, when he confronts Cersei on it, the queen greets him with a mocking smile. >> Father, such accusations are a dangerous thing. You can see he has his father's hair. >> Enough games, girl. Most people in the southern kingdoms have dark hair, but that doesn't prove a thing. Acting this way is beneath you. Who is the father? >> Oh, how should I know? So many men it could be. It would take time to figure out. >> Seven hells. Do you have any shame, Cersei? >> I will not be lectured about shame and honor by the likes of you, father. What I have done is simply make the most of the position you left me in. I made do with being left in the hands of a drunken brute, and all you concern yourself with are my children. >> Who is the father? I will not ask again. >> Sagarth Oak. >> You sired a bastard with the heir to Old Oaks. Are you mad, woman? If word gets out, >> it will not get out, now would it, father? Because you will make sure that it doesn't. Not unless you want your precious legacy to come into question. Because if one blackhaired beauty is a bastard, who's to say others won't be? >> Tywin stares at his daughter, hands trembling in anger. But Cersei raises a valid point. If he were to bring it up, it would put all their parentage into question. It could undo everything he has done to prevent the fall of his house. If that is how you intend to live your life, very well. Go on then. Live like that wh your grandfather took into his bed. But you can be certain of two things. One, your bastard will never inherit the Iron Throne. The second is, if this ever comes to haunt you, expect no help from your family. >> You stopped being my father the day you sided with that oath over my silver prince. You stopped being my father ever since you separated me from my brother. >> He clenches his fist and then shakes his head before storming off. Though Tywin tries to calm himself, he realizes Cersei threatens to burn everything he's built to the ground. After everything he had worked for, the changes he had made over the decades, the thought of it all comes crumbling down. Chills Taiwan to the bone. He spends the night pacing his chambers, trying to think of a new plan to clean up this mess. Unfortunately, nothing comes to mind. The more his mind draws a blank, the grimmer he becomes. From the shadows, Tyrion watches this alongside Joanna. >> I've never seen grandfather so upset after returning from the capital. I wonder if he and mother had a dispute. >> No mere dispute would cause Tywin Lannister to act like this. It is something much worse. >> What could she have said? >> Well, my dear, there's only one way to tell. He pushes the door open and regards his father with a lopsided smile. Tywin does not return it, though, and begins to look away towards his desk. Leave me, Tyrion. I have little interest in your nonsense. Apologies for the interruption, father. However, it seems to me that my nonsense isn't what's bothering you today. It seems that now it is my sister who's gotten under your skin. >> Grandfather, what's going on? >> When it comes to Tyrion, he would have been happy to grant a curt dismissal. But to his granddaughter, the one who has proven to be the most able of his legacy. He hesitates. There is something about her clear blue eyes that Tywin finds disarming. Taking a deep breath, he decides to answer truthfully. I fear your mother is planning to crown Tybolt over your brother. They both look at each other in surprise. That was unexpected to say the least. Not just the announcement, but also what has Tywin so worried. While they all know Cersei favors her second born, they didn't think she would try to circumvent the right of succession. And yet, even if she did, it wouldn't still remain in the hands of the Lannisters. I failed to see the issue here, father. Sure, I doubt Orman would be pleased to hear this, but Tybolt is as much a Lannister as any of us. The problem is that he is not a Baratheon. Ty wants to say, but manages to keep it to himself. Fool. This is how wars are started. When we pick and choose when to follow succession laws, it breeds resentment. It allows houses to pick sides. It creates a line in the sand that can only be crossed with bloodshed. Unfortunately, your Cersei does not care or does not realize it as she is only guided by her whims. >> Well, then the answer must be that we must ensure the realm recognizes Orman's claim and he does not waver. He is turning 20 soon. Perhaps it is time he weds and takes a bride. That may give his claim some teeth. >> Yes. Which blushing bride would have the honor of wedding good old? >> I had been thinking of one, Reerys. Though her family holds no land, she had been a princess before us. Her name is among the most respected in the realm. And even if questions were to be raised, having the royal houses's backing would nullify that. >> Yes, that could work. But the Targaryenss to marry the royal heir. Robert will not be pleased. I will consider this. Thank you for the advice. >> The two of them nod and Joanna walks off feeling a small smile. What she had not mentioned was that she had her reasons for suggesting Reys. Though it might seem purely practical, she knows that Orman has grown fond of her. For years, the two of them had grown up together, and Reys had been one of Orman's closest companions next to Oliver. When he suggested to match his brother's strength, the former princess suggested using speed and strength like her uncle Oberin. >> He says that anyone can bring down the mountain if they are fast enough. >> Since then, she has become a regular fixture in Orman's training. She says it's to watch his progress and ensure he is putting her words to good use, but a part of it is to watch him. It is also because she wants to make sure he doesn't hurt himself or push himself too far. At the same time, Orman begins finding himself watching Reneer's training with her archery. He asks marcher men to come and train with her and teaches her how to hunt in the hills of the Westerlands to search for game. The god's wood of Castly Rock was quiet, saved for the faint rustle of leaves and the soft trickle of the springfed pool. Orman sits beneath the great oak, polishing the edge of a dagger as Reerys leans back against the trunk beside her, her skirt fan in the grass. >> You're staring again. >> Am I? >> You do whenever you think I'm not paying attention. I've known you since you were five. I helped your wetnesses change your small clothes. Remember? >> Don't remind me. I still remember when you were taller than me and very proud of it. >> You were insufferably smug about beating me at the vase. Some things never change. Their words are light, but there was a closeness to them that had been there since childhood. Taiwan stands a short distance away, watching the two of them from the colonade. At first, he studies them as he would any political arrangement, calculating angles, weighing risks. But the longer he looks, the more he feels a strange tug in his chest. Orman's smile, the way he leans slightly towards her without realizing it, reminding him of himself in his youth. Speaking with Joanna in the gardens of the rock before their betroal that night in the solar Orman entered with the same easy confidence he always carried. Renerys was with him. Rise bright. Tywin looks at them both for a long moment. The thought has been in his mind before. But seeing them together now, natural, unforced, it no longer seemed like strategy. It seemed right. >> Grandson, I've been giving some thought to the future. You are at an age when you must begin thinking of who you are to wed that you will be heir to the Iron Throne. And it seems like Robert is still dragging his feet on the matter. So I have some thoughts of my own. Grandfather, I understand my duty. I am turning 20 soon, so I suppose it's long overdue. May I know who you're thinking about? >> There are a few names I've considered. Chief among them is Princess Rearis. Uh the the princess. >> It's only natural. You're a prince, my boy. Besides, I know you care for her. Such a match is rare. And while I'll always consider the practicalities of such a match, I would be lying if I said I haven't noticed the way you look at her. >> Grandfather, I I don't know what to say. Thank you. If you feel the need to embrace me, I advise you restrain that urge. And remember, the flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and beautiful of all. Grandfather, you don't meet a girl like that every dynasty. But what of my father? I doubt he would be pleased by this match. I will make it happen. When it's done, I will see that it is the realm that accepts it. You will not have only each other, but the Iron Throne. That is my gift to you, my boy. >> For the first time in many years, Tywin speaks not only as a lord plotting for power, but as a grandfather. Though he does not embrace the boy, he pats his head and gives him a respectful nod. Yet, as Orman leaves, someone else is listening. From the shadowed stairwell, Jaime listens to every word, hearing the words, the tone, the compassion he had given the boy, all things he was denied as his son. He returns to his chamber and pens a letter to Cersei. As his quill touches ink and drags across the parchment, his anger and betrayal grows. He thinks of the slights he has suffered under his father. All the mockery and disappointment Tywin had leveled against him. The worst of these insults was to force him to leave the king's guard. For all his talk about ensuring the family name is respected, he had gladly watched his son be humiliated all for the sake of having his heir. And now Jaime feels like he is being thrown to the wayside, replaced by the newer generation. Denied the one thing that Jaime felt gave him purpose. Cersei read this from her chambers, a smile forming on her face. She writes back to him. >> So, he forgets us entirely. First, he strips you of the king's guard. Now, he grooms Orman to take the throne with a dragon bride. And we're meant to smile and applaud. He'll disinherit you if it suits him. You know that. >> Within weeks, whispers begin to spread among the court. Some lords mutter about Targaryen blood returning to the Iron Throne. Those houses that had served against the Targaryenss and loved Robert watch these developments with uncertainty. They had forgotten to remove the dragons from the Iron Throne. And soon it even reaches Robert himself. Cersei ensures that the worst of these reach her husband. She says she fears her sons are being used by Tywin as puppets to secure his rule. She worries he will be swept up in conflict if he's not stopped. She reminds him of the promise Tywin made to ensure that the Targaryens shall never rule. Yet here he is placing one at top the Iron Throne. All while Robert is still alive. She instead suggests alternatives. Some of Robert's bannermanmen, the Riverlords, even Greyjoys. But the one she believes is best is Marjgery. Her family is wealthy and it would deprive the Targaryen loyalists of a major ally. Robert agreed readily, never suspecting the deeper game. When words reach Tywin, his face is stone, but his eyes burn. Not only is Robert considering this marriage, but he reiterates that Aegon and Rainees both come forward to court and publicly bend the knee to Robert, swearing their allegiance to him. Orund is understandably shocked to hear this, but he looks at his grandfather, whose gaze is distant. Unfortunately, for all Tywin's power, he is outranked in this situation and must yield to the will of the boy's father. He accompanies the prince to the capital where Robert is waiting. Though his siblings wished to go with him, Tywin insists Oliver and Joanna remain in Castly Rock. If things took a turn for the worse, then he would need them to stake their claims. Standing beside him is Tybalt, who smirks at the proceedings. His eyes look down at his prince and his cohorts. Beside him stand the two Targaryenss and a small Dornish bodyguard, their mother having sent them in support. While there is a flicker of sympathy in his eyes, his voice is firm as he talks. Boy, it's high time you married. And I know you might fancy that Targaryen gale, but their dynasty is never to sit this throne again. They should be grateful they are even allowed to remain in the seven kingdoms. You might be friends with them, but I cannot allow them to claw back to power. Father, how can you say such a thing? Neither Rainees nor her brother has given any reason that warrants this treatment. >> They're Targaryenss, boy. They're children. You forget yourself, brother. Our king's word is law. To reject that is treason. Say that to my face. Or would you rather hide behind your mother's skirts? >> Enough. Here is what I command. Those two are to bend the knee now. Rainees looks to the king, but then to Orman and squeezes his hand. To her surprise, she feels him squeezing back as he offers her a reassuring look. Taking a deep breath, the princess shakes her head. >> I'm sorry, Grace, but I cannot do that. I cannot make amends for a crime I did not commit. And I will not let the shadows of my father and grandfather dictate my future. >> So it's treason then. Treason? Have you lost your mind, brother? Have I? Prince Ormond, by my right of succession and the sovereignty of my crown. You are not my king. Or have you forgotten that I am the crown prince? Not anymore. >> He glances towards his father, who appears pained. Robert grimaces and shakes his head slowly. >> I had hoped it wouldn't have to come to this, my boy, but it's true. I hoped you'd see reason and serve as my heir. Before Orman realizes what's happening, the guards sees him and march him off into a tower cell. Tai, one of the others receives similar treatment. And as he goes, he catches a glimpse of Tybalt's triumphant expression. That sight remains in the prince's mind as he's left alone. The king's guard is instructed to watch over him. Yet in the dead of night, the doors open for him. And that same night stands. He gestures for Orman to follow him. My prince, follow me and hurry. What is the meaning of this? Cersei might be queen, but our loyalty is still to Lord Tywin. Now come. The young prince decides not to look this gift horse in the mouth and follows. The king's guard guides him down the stables below, where Tyron already is, looking no worse for wear. >> You see, now I insisted your brother and sister not join us in this meeting. Soon after, several Lannister men at arms emerge, accompanied by Aegon and Rainees. Raineies and Norman share an embrace before they are given a dark cloak to conceal themselves and they ride out. Thankfully, no one bars their way with suppressed in accompanying them. Whenever a gate is barred or some gold cloaks attempt to stop them, he simply shows his cloak and states he has royal business. Before anyone realizes it, their small group of disappears into the night. Robert only learns about their disappearance a day later, and he is thrown into a fury. He demands they be caught and brought back to the Red Keep, but Cersei and Tybalt are already there waiting. They continue to feed the king's anger, saying that they had a chance to confess and that now the only punishment is imprisonment in the dungeon or even execution. Though he does not want to do such a thing to his son, Robert gladly agrees to meet this punishment out on Tywin. Orders are soon sent out, declaring Tywin Lannister a traitor to the ground along with anyone who follows him. The royal children are to be caught on site and brought back to the capital. Hearing this, the Reach and Stormlanders both pledge themselves to Robert, as does the Crownlands. As Tybal rides off to rally a host as well, calling for some trusted friends. Yet, the Martell's protest. They know the only reason Ellia and her children live is because of Tywin. They send a letter demanding that Targaryen children be sent home. They insist they can mediate a peace between both parties, but the Baratheonss are not inclined to listen. Seeing diplomacy fail, Oberin secretly begins raising a host to prepare for war. Though the riverlords and reachmen scour the countryside looking for a weward lord of Castley Rock, they manage to return to Westerlands in one piece and find Tyrion running things. He has also started calling his banners. The Marbrands, Preers, Kennings, and Leffords have all answered the call. Yet many houses, especially the smaller ones, have not sent men to Castle Rock. Tyrion explains that Sir Jaime had slipped out in the dead of night, and some houses are rumored to have sent men at arms to help him escape. These are the houses not favored by Tywin. The SARS fields, Stiltwoods, Plums, Spicers, and Litten are all rumored to have sent men to support Tybalt. The most troubling of all is that Sir Greor is nowhere to be seen. He had been one of Tywin's most effective enforcers, but he was also close to Tybalt. Now it is clear which side he is on. The Craigs are concerned. They say the reach is mustering at Golden Grove and Old Holk. Lord Krakar feels an attack of the border. They want assurances the western holdings won't be overrun. House Green Screenfield refuses to take Sir Preston back, claiming neutrality. They say they cannot accept a man who disgraced his white cloak. >> They are waiting to see who wins. Better they wait than march like the others, I'd say. I'm surprised. But you've nevered them much, have you? What is the plan? Silence stretches. Tyrion braces for a sharp insult, but instead Tywin exhales through his nose. You have held the rock in my absence. Keep the major houses in line. There might be more who harbor treasonous thoughts and a Lannister here might remind them of their loyalty. Your performance so far has been acceptable. Seven in hell. Was that praise? Don't let it get to your head. I will take 15,000 men east. Kevin will hold the south with 8,000. I simply need a Lannister in the rock. Our seat cannot fall. And if the worst should happen to me, I will not see my legacy undone by Tybolt or your sister's ambitions. You're trusting me with everything you've built. I see how the children look up to you as their teacher. You seem to have played some part in this. Soon after, they received word from John Aaron. Many expected to be an arrest warrant for him, but instead it is a warning and confirmation of what they've already feared. Cersei and Tybalt have poisoned Robert's mind, using his hatred of the Targaryenss to forward their ambitions. Already the crown is mobilizing its army to confront them. However, he says he doesn't wish for Tybolt to claim the iron throne. He had seen the boy growing up and feared that he would be a danger to the realm. When the Lannister host begins to gather in the yard, Mormon finds Joanna and Oliver checking their saddles. You don't have to come with me. You can claim neutrality. Save yourselves. No one will blame you. If things go sideways, we can just say we kept you as hostages. I can't let anyone know my title as the next Jaime Lannister. So sorry, brother, but just stuck with me. This isn't just about dying. If you ride with me, you become enemies of the crown. There will be no safe return to court, no easy marriage pacts. You'll be cutting ties that may never mend. And then there's Tyball. If we go to war with him, we may have to. Frankly, I never liked him. But seriously, I know this is no joke. And I don't like the thought of turning against father or uncle Renley or Stannis. Yet what choice do we have? >> We were born Lannisters. We stand for our own. >> If only our uncles knew that. >> Besides, if Tybalt wins, do you really think he'd let us live in peace? He'd have us all tucked away in some tower or worse. >> Then I'm lucky to have the both of you. Whatever happens, we face it together. The war camp outside Duskondale is a patchwork of Crownlands banners and mismatched cells sword pendants. Marrow lounges by the fire. Bloodbeard naws on a bone. and Braun flips a dagger lazily. In the corner, Carl Tanner of Jin Alley drinks ale and stares at the fire. Tybalt rides in, black armor gleaming. Though he does not laugh like Robert, Tybalt has a brutal charm to him. To men like this who revel in blood, the prince is happy to indulge them. He shares cups, trades stories, and rewards them with gifts and gold. The cell swords straighten as a massive knight approaches. Sir Gregor Clelegane. Behind him is a contingent, smaller than most, but no less fierce. How fair is Prince Flowers? [ __ ] you, sir. A few of the mountains men gasp, watching Sir Gregor wearily as he stares down at the prince. One swing might be all it takes to sever him at the waist. And yet, the knight starts to laugh. >> I see the court hasn't made you soft, your grace. No. And I see serving my grandfather hasn't blinded you to your future. It was your blade that nighted me. I haven't forgotten. I'll repay that debt in full. How? When I am king, you will wear white in the king's guard. I want you to rip it off that treasonous suppressed bloodied corpse. You will have immunity from any crime in the realm. More gold than you can ever want in the lands of House Westerling. Every acre mine and mill and every head. A slow, dark smile spreads across Gregor's face. Ride with me and the spoils of the west are yours. Fail me and you will have no place in the Seven Kingdoms. I like a king who speaks plain. The war begins not in the Crownlands, but in the south. Dornish banners cross the prince's pass to strike at the royalists ankles. Lords of the Stormlands and Reach rush to meet them. Precisely what Lord Yornwood wanted. As they are pulled away from the north, Geralt Darkstar cuts through them and terrorizes their ranks. He moves with a small band of followers to wage a guerilla war. As this happens, a third host sails north, led by the Sand Snakes and Oberin Martell to reinforce the Westerland camp. I told you won't lie. We do not forget those who keep their word. Nimriia, Oara, and Tyen fall in beside Joanna and Oliver, already discussing where their troops will be best placed. Ravens bring more news. The Targaryen children's open support of Ormans and Aegon has stirred pockets of loyalty across the Riverlands and Stormlands. Houses still loyal to the dragons. Coningtons, Derry, Mutens, and Catherine send riders to pledge their swords. A sealed letter arrives from the veil. John Aaron's sigils stamped in wax. It is for Edmir Tully alone warning him of the men Tybalt keeps in his service. Men like the mountain and bloodbeard. Within days, Tully banners join the Westerland host. But the king's allies are not idle. From Oldtown to Storm's End, Tyrell and Baratheon Bannerman answer Tybalt's call. Worse still, the Ironborn declare for him after he promises to allow the old way. Raids, Reeving, and all. Salt and smoke follow them as they strike along the western coast, forcing Tywin to split his strength. Tybalt proves he is no mere figurehead. From the Crownlands, he drives deep into the Riverlands, splitting his army into three prongs. One north to harry the Tully Lands, one west into Harrenhal, and one south to join Renley Baratheon's march. Stannis comes reluctantly as well, sending ships and blockading the Bay of Crabs. The fighting surges back and forth. Joanna rides as Tywin's voice at the negotiation table, brokering truses with wavering lords. Aegon and Rainees move like firebrands through the Riverlands, rallying the dragon loyal houses and bringing fresh companies into the fold. They even journey to the battlefields where they find themselves under siege. Thankfully, both of them prove capable of defending themselves and even fighting in several sieges. Orund and Oliver prove themselves in the press of battle. Orund, quick and decisive, Oliver striking like a snake. His glaive sweeps across enemy soldiers as he leads the vanguard of the army alongside Sir Adam Marbrand. Tywin holds back, organizing the army and planning their strategy. They welcome the arrival of the Veil under the command of Robar Royce, who leads nearly 10,000 troops to reinforce them. Still, Tybalt's captains bite hard. Bronn holds the murmurous Ford for 3 days before breaking off, bleeding Lannister troops with every retreat. Bloodbeard ravages the southern passes into the reach. And above all, Sir Gregor rides wherever the fighting is thickest, smashing every line that stands before him. A brutal stalemate forms for months. As though the Riverlands remain loyal to the Lannisters, and the Veilman's cavalry proves highly effective, they are still badly outnumbered. The stalemate breaks with the arrival of the North. 12,000 men under the Direwolf banners march south. Lord Stark himself at their head. To the astonishment of the realm, the Northmen do not join the royalists. Instead, they ride into Tywin's camp and pledge themselves to him. Though he dislikes Tywin, he also understands the rule of succession and knows Orand is their heir. With the northern steel added to the Westerlands, Riverlands and Dornish, the balance shifts. Tybalt's forces are driven back, battle by battle. At Fair Market, Aegon's cavalry smashes Meo's second son's flank. In the Western Hills, Oliver cuts down Bloodbeard in a single combat. In the south, Oberin's spears run down Tyrell out rididers. Aegon personally rallies a militia's small folk to chase down Vargo Hot and lets them publicly execute him. Meanwhile, in another battle, Rainees uses her longbowow to take out Lord Plume. One by one, Tybalt's great captains fall until only Brun, Marrow, and Gregor remain. Yet soon, the former is bribed off, being granted Castmir if he rides off with his men. That leaves Gregor Clegane. At the battle of the Blue Fork, the mountain covers Tybalt's retreat, slaughtering any who dare nears. His sheer ferocity buys Tybal the time he needs to withdraw into the Crownlands. battered but unbroken to rebuild his host for the next campaign. The border war between the reachmen and Kevin's forces grinds on. The reach sends 20,000 under Lord Mace Tyrell, but Kevin, though badly outnumbered, is a better commander and outmaneuvers him again and again. Kevin not only holds the line, but captures Sir Gar Oakart in a daring night raid. Dragged into Kevin's tent, Sir Gar resists questioning until he is given over to the torturers, and pain forces words from his lips. His confession is heard by every man in the command tent. He has shared Cersei's bed, and Tybalt may not be Robert's son at all. Tyrion seizes the moment. He goes on the diplomatic offensive, whispering in the ears of wavering lords. He speaks not only of Cersei's scandal, but of Tybalt's captains, the villages burned by Bloodbeard, the women taken by Maro's men, the murderers committed by Carl Tanner, and the atrocities of the mountain. The story spread, turning noble stomachs and chipping at Tybalt's alliances. Feeling his support weaken, Tybalt acts. He gathers his remaining loyalists. With his father and uncle Renley at his side and marches to crush the rebellion in the Crownlands, the two armies meet on the rolling fields outside Wendwater. Warhorn sound on the rebel right flank. Aegon and Oliver lead the charge, their cavalry smashing into Sir Greor's position. They cut through his men. Oliver roaring at thunderous battlecries as Glaive cuts through the men. >> If you fear for your safety, you can hide behind me. Like hell I will. This is the monster who kidnapped my mother. As the last defenders break, the two rush the massive knight. >> Go home. You're more kitten than lion. But if you face me, I'll make sure you die a dog's death. >> Oliver responds by placing a hand to his ear. >> I for the life of me cannot decipher the barkings of this mad dog. Cursing, the mountain raises his sword high. Steel rings against Steel as Oliver meets Gregor's first blow. The force nearly knocking him from the saddle. Aegon slashes low, forcing Gregor to step back, but the giant swings again, battering them both. They fight hard, ducking and weaving, holding him long enough until one blow kills their legs underneath them. >> Like I said, dear, you will die a dog's death down in there. >> And you talk too much and get too focused on us. There is a scream from the side as the last of the mountain men are cut down. The man who appears before them wears a dog helmet. >> What's this? Too good to share, eh? Sometimes three is better than two. Four, actually. Get in line. The red viper steps over a group of fallen men at arms. The mountain turns to face Oberin, rage flashing, but Sander crashes into his brother, hacking at him in a frenzy. Oberin darts in, spear flashing, and with a roar drives the point through Gregor's chest. The mountain staggers and slams into his brother's sword. The force doesn't penetrate the plate, but it at least knockes him off his horse. Oberin takes this chance and leaps up to drive his spear into his throat. Gregor gasps, blood bubbling from his mouth, then collapses in the trampled grass. In the center, Tywin and Ned Stark fight side by side against Robert's main host. The Lannisters focus on keeping the Stormlanders back while the Northmen advance toward, aiming to separate the center into two. When Ned forces his way to Robert, the two lock eyes across a littered battlefield. >> Still friends, Robert. Ned, throw down your sword and let's talk over a drink. I'm afraid I can't. This is none of the Stark's business. It is a family matter. Some family matter this is. It has engulfed half the realm. And you say I shouldn't get involved. Tell that to Lord Tywin. It isn't Tywin who hired these cutthroats. Look at what's happening, Robert. Lannister killing Lannister. Baratheon killing Baratheon. Men dying for your grudges and Cersei's pride. You fear the dragon, but all that are left are children. End this war before we destroy the realm we swore to protect. Robert's breath comes hard. He looks around, sees his own banners falling in the mud. He sees men who fought with him in the trident now slaughtering one another. And then he sees it to the far left. Orman orders a charge and he gallops right towards Tybalt's position. The realization hits him worse than any blow that Ned could have struck. At last, he nods, signaling the halt. Yet, while he's occupied, Orund and Tybalt meet in the chaos. Their swords crash again and again as their armies battle around him. Orman gets the better of him, sweeps his sword, driving Tybalt back. Yet, his brother smirks, "Look at you. So blind to the future that can be made in front of us. and one not bound by the old laws of the grandfather and his likes. We have a new dynasty. Why do you try so hard to restore the old one? In what worlds have you built? Made by killers and dominated by savages. >> Orund is driving his half brother back. Tybolt stumbles, blood on his lip. >> For the strongest. It only belongs to the strongest. Agreed. But you won't be one of them. Their swords meet again, but Orman rams his shoulder forward and sends his half-brother sprawling. Suddenly, Carl Tanner slams into him, knocking the strike wide. Tanner rises his dagger, but an arrow whistles from the ridge. It sinks deep into his throat, dropping him instantly. Rainees lowers her bow, eyes locked on Orund, and gives the smallest nod. Tyball, pale and breathing hard, retreats under the cover of his guard. Yet they are buckling as the entire rebellion line advances and the army either surrenders or is slaughtered. With that done, Robert looks at his children ashamed and announces that he has retracted their stance on them. Rainees and Aegon receive full pardons. Even more, he abdicates the throne for Orund, though not before seeing Tybalt sent to the wall. The Baratheon brothers are quick to follow. They advance towards King's Landing, which is still held by Cersei and Jaime, though the guards are quick to yield them up after they see Robert and Orman together. The two are executed shortly after. Orman soon marries Rainees and begins rebuilding the realm. Captured captains like Mero are handed over to Ned Stark. While he initially advocates for a merciful death as he looks over their long list of crimes, he changes his tune as Tywin and Stannis convince him to hand them over to Roose Bolton. With these last remnants wiped, Orman can at last begin his reign. That's our theory. Westeros is a land filled with exciting stories and possibilities, and we love exploring them.
